Irlanti / Ireland

Here's a short summary of our Ireland road trip. A week before us there was a nice weather, but we got quite a much rain - fortunately scenery was still beautiful and we had a lot of different sights to see. Below is a route map that I drove counter-clockwise - Tarja took care of navigation and my mother-in-law Elsa enjoyed the scenery. Color marks routes of each day.

I got used to driving on left side already in Jan-Feb and again we had a car with automatic gears, so no problems in there. The surprise of this trip was slowness of roads - besides few highway parts the roads are narrow and these highest daily distances were on the limit of comfortable distance. Speed limit was often high (62mph) but if I dare to drive only 37mph then the average speed stays quite low. Fortunately the scenery made also driving interesting.

As this was our first trip to Ireland, we wanted to see all the famous places: Titanic Quarter, Giant's Causeway, Cliffs of Moher, Ring of Kerry, Skellig Ring, Dublin, Glendalough and Powerscourt. Visiting first two in northern part of Ireland forced to drive longer, but they were worth it. After few year when Skellig opens to public, we could concentrate to just southern part of Ireland.

Just a little place

Muuten reissu sujui hyvin, kaikenlaista nähtiin - lisää kuvia tuolla alimpana olevan linkin takana. Dublinissa oltiin reissun ainoa 0-km päivä turistibussikierroksella, onneksi huomattiin CityScape-linjan tarjoavan saman kuin kaksi muuta kilpailijaa, mutta puoleen hintaan.

We had a very good trip, saw a lot - more photos are found in Ireland Album that's linked to the end of this article. In Dublin we spent the only no-driving-day in CityScape bus that cost just half of the competitors. Easy way to see all the sights without parking problems.
