Lepis has every year a meme challenge to survive November. I kind of promised to participate in it some day but today I started to think that 'Öööö!? how come the whole month is already over' and it's time for the last letter in alphabets: Ö.

Näin lomalla ei meinaa aika riittää bloggaamiseen, mutta tavallaan lupailin osallistua ainakin kerran Lepiksen marraskuun selätykseen. Meillä keinona selvitä marraskuusta on pakeneminen, mutta ainakin tänä aamuna 8h sitten oli aamupalakin kuvauksellinen ja maistuva.

Now on vacation I don't have much time to blog but I kind of promised to participate in the How to survive November -series so here we go. Our survival relies mostly on escaping but this morning about 8 hrs ago also the breakfast was photogenic and tasty.

Siirryttiin torstaina tänne Vietnamiin Phu Quocin saarelle ja ollaan ekana tässä keskivaiheilla. Tässä meidän pääpaikan privaattirannan näkymää aurinkotuoleilta.

We moved on Thursday from Phnom Penh to Vietnam and are now in Phu Quoc island. Here's a view from our hotel's private beach as seen on our sun chairs.

Elämäni biisi -kategoriaan tämän vie se hieno oivalluksen tunne vuoden -99 syksyllä, kun kuulin Hyvinkäällä työreissun iltaa viettäessä mahtavan kappaleen ja sain selville, että tämähän on Blondielta! Bändiltä, jota teininä 70-80 -lukujen vaihteessa fanitin ja olin tietystin hiukan ihastunutkin yhteen jäseneen. 😃

Tuosta löytyy kunnolla tehty musavideokin jonkinlaisella tarinalla. Blondien virallinen tili ei kuitenkaan ole sitä julkaissut, joten bändien tukemiseksi koitan linkittää virallisen Youtube-tilin tuotokseen aina kun sellainen löytyy.

This song goes to the Song of my Life category due to a nice moment of realization I had on my work trip to Hyvinkää Autumn 1999. I heard this, liked it very much and was amazed to find out it was a song by Blondie! The band I listened to a lot in the 70-80s. And I naturally then had a crush on one of the members. 😃

I noticed that there's also a real music video of this song in Youtube, but since Blondie's Youtube account has not published it it's here just as a link. I prefer showing the video from the official artist page so that they will get the ad income.

Makrotex Maaliskuu

Makrotex-haasteen aiheena on maaliskuu ja vaikka yleensä kuukautta on hankala valokuvata, niin tällä kertaa aihe löytyi helposti: vessapaperi. 

The subject for the Makrotex-challenge of this week is 'March'. Normally it would be difficult to take a photo of a month, but this time I got the idea easily: the toilet paper. 

On kyllä täysin poikkeuksellinen maaliskuu verrattuna aikaisempiin. Tammikuun lopussa korona näkyi Malesiassa meille vain kieltona päästä moskeijaan, mutta nyt on koko maailma herännyt siihen. Tämä tulee luultavasti muuttamaan maailmaa enemmän kuin 2001 terrori-iskut. 

This March is totally different from all the previous ones. At the end of January, it just caused us to miss a mosque visit in Malaysia, but now the whole world is affected. This will surely change the world even more than 9/11.

MakroTex - Hedelmä se on isokin

Meillä on meneillään lomamatka Malesiaan ja nyt ollaan Borneossa. Eilen oltiin retkellä Kinabalu-puistossa (siellä nähtiin maailman toiseksi pienin orkidea) ja kuumien lähteiden vierellä oli auki Rafflesia-kukka, joka on maailman suurin kukka. Tuuria oli, koska 1-2% siemenistä selviytyy kukaksi, joka on auki 5-7pv kasvettuaan ensin 1-2 vuotta.

We're currently on a vacation trip to Malaysia and now we are in Borneo. Yesterday's trip to Kinabalu park showed us the world's second-smallest orchid and the world's biggest flower was saw near Poring Hot Springs. Seeing this Rafflesia flower was a lucky thing since only 1-2% of them survives to open and it's open only for 5-7 days after growing 1-2 years.

Tässä se hedelmä näkyy käsittääkseni tuolla keskellä. Jännä piirre tässä kukassa on myös se, että näitä on uros- ja naaraspuolisia ja lisääntymisen tekee harvinaiseksi, että molempien pitää olla lähekkäin auki samaan aikaan, että homma onnistuu.

This is a part of the weekly Finnish blog challenge of macro or close-up photos (link on the left) of fruits.

The fruit is most probably that one in the middle. Another exciting feature is that these flowers exist both as male and female and reproducing is so rare as both of them need to be open at the same time nearby each other.

Some of my photos from this trip are already in the album and there are more stories coming to this blog later.

Malediivit / Instagram Travel Thursday

Meillä on jo pitkään ollut listalla Malediivit, mutta yleensä matkapakettien hinnan näkeminen on saanut vaihtamaan kohdetta. Toki asutuilla saarilla Airbnb tai perushotelli olisi ollut edukas, mutta toiveena oli oma ranta pikkusaarella. Nyt sellainen vihdoin löytyi kohtuuhintaan Tjäreborgilta ja jo parinkin entisen työkaverin testaamassa paikassa.

Sun Island Resort & Spa puolihoidolla tarjosi juuri sopivan valohoitoviikon meidän peruuntuneen kesäloman korvaukseksi.

The Maldives has been on our country wish list for a long time but usually, the price of hotel packages has got us quickly to check other destinations. Of course, Airbnb or a basic hotel on an inhabited island would be a budget solution but we wanted one of those classic white sand palm trees islands. Now we finally found one place on sale.

Sun Island Resort &  Spa with half-board was just a perfect light treatment for our compensation of the cancelled summer vacation.

Ykköstoiveena paikan valinnassa oli hyvät snorklauspaikat ja se tosiaan toteutui. Bungalowin vieressä oli vain valkoisia kaloja, mutta venesatamassa olevan ravintolan takana oli värikästä ja runsasta menoa. Varsinkin kun veteen musersi hiukan leipää.

Our main requirement on hotel properties was good snorkelling site and it was fully delivered here. Next to our bungalow, there were only few white fish, but behind the Italian restaurant in the hotel's harbour fish were colourful and plenty. Especially with some bread mashed to water.

Vaikka oltiin koko ajan yhdellä saarella, niin askeleita kertyi hyvin - päiväkeskiarvo oli lähes 11 000. Aamupalalla käynnistäkin tuli heti yli 2000 askelta. Ranta oli mukavan rauhallinen, kun ihmiset majoittuivat laajalle alueelle.

Even though we spent the whole time in only one island we walked a lot - daily average was almost 11k steps. Just walking to breakfast and back was 2000 steps. As the area was so big, the beach was quite peaceful.

Lähtöpäivänä kuljetus hotellilta lähti vasta klo 16 jälkeen, joten saatiin aamulle paikat parin tunnin valashai-retkelle. Onnistumis% on kuulemma 50 ja meillä se ainakin toteutui helposti. Nähtiin kahta eri yksilöä, jotka uivat lähes peräkkäin. Bussin kokoisen rauhallisen jättiläisen näkeminen ihan vierestä oli hieno päätös matkalle.

The return transportation on our last day left the hotel around 16.00 (4 p.m.) so we booked a Whale shark trip for the morning. They promised a 50% chance to succeed and at least for us, that was delivered easily. We saw two different Whale sharks who were going quite close to each other. Swimming next to a bus size tranquil giant was a highlight and a great ending to our vacation.

Kaukana kotoa / Instagram Travel Thursday

Tämän kertainen IGTT-aihe on 'kaukana kotoa'. Meille kaukaisin yöpymispaikka on ollut tämä vapaa-leirintäalue Uuden Seelannin eteläsaaren kaakkoiskulmassa. Etäisyyttä kotiin oli noin 17 330 kilometriä.

Tie perille oli mutkainen ja kuoppainen, sekä sisälsi draamaa: aasialainen pariskunta oli ajanut ojaan ja heitä auttamassa ollut mies olikin lähtenyt heidän vuokra-autonsa avaimen kanssa. Pyysivät meitä lähtemään jahtaamaan tuota miestä, mutta onneksi mies palasi takaisin itse.

Paikka oli CamperMate -softassa kehuttu ja oli tosiaan mukava. Rannalla näkyi merileijonia ja maisemat olivat komeat - sadekuurojen välissä ehdittiin tosin vain hetken istuskella vuokratuilla retkituoleilla.

This month's subject of Instagram Travel Thursday is 'far from home'. For us the furthest accommodation has been this freedom camping site in the South-Eastern part of New Zealand's south island. Distance to our home was 17 330 km (10 768 mi).

The road there was winding and bumpy with some drama: an Asian couple ran the ditch and a guy helping them had left with their car key. They asked us to start chasing that guy, who fortunately returned soon.

The camping site was recommended in CamperMate app and it was nice indeed. Sealions on the beach and a beautiful view - there were some showers so we didn't have much time to sit on the rental chairs.

Seuraavat yöpaikat (esim Tuatapere, Uuden Seelannin makkarapääkaupunki!) olivat jo lännempänä ja pari sataa kilsaa lähempänä kotoa. Pari yötä oltiin Manapourissa, josta tehtiin vuonoristeily: ensin järven poikki, sieltä bussikuljetus vuoren yli ja lopuksi varsinainen risteily Doubtful Soundissa. Säästettiin pitkä menopaluuajo Milford Soundiin ja tämä on 3x pidempi ja 10x laajempi. Toki molempi hyvä!

The next accommodations, for example Tuatapere, the sausage capital of New Zealand, were more west so the distance to home was less. We spent two nights in Manapouri from where we took a fjord cruise: cross the lake, bus trip over the mountain and then the actual cruise in the Doubtful Sound. We saved a long drive to and back of Milford Sound and got 3x longer + 10x larger fjord. Of course they both are good!

Vuonoilta ajettiin länsirannikon jäätiköitä katsomaan Queenstownin kautta. Sieltä löytyi upeat maisemat, mutta kaupunki oli niin Levi-tyylinen, että jatkettiin jo yhden yön jälkeen.

From the fjords we drove to Queenstown before heading to the west coast and glaciers. Queenstown had great views, but it was like a very commercial alpine village, so we left already after one night.

Autoilu etenee hyvin - joka päivä maisemakävelyjä ja ajoa, joka sekin maisemien ihailua. Vilpoista on, mutta pysyvätpä hiekkakärpäset pois. Eilen kuvan Queenstown ja tänään tultiin Sinisen lammen kautta Fox-jäätikölle länsirannikolle. Driving goes well - every day scenery walking and driving through beautiful landscape. Melfiet | Instagram Travel Thursday

Tämän kertainen Instagram Travel Thursday kerää omakuvia. Kaikki tähän tulleet ovatkin meidän 2016 vuorotteluvapaamatkoilta.

Perussa Macchu Pichun kylässä oli paripäiväiset vuosijuhlat ja kun pyydettiin lupaa ottaa kuva, niin halusivat meidät mukaan.

The subject of Instagram Travel Thursday for this month is 'selfie'. All these are taken during 2016 on trips of our sabbatical year.

Macchu Pichu pueblo in Peru celebrated the village anniversary for a couple of days and when we asked for permission to take a photo, they changed it to a group photo.

Uudessa Seelannissa vietettiin kuukauden loppupuoli pohjoissaarella ja autoilun aluksi mentiin Hobbitoniin katsomaan muun turistimassan mukana Sormusten herra leffan lavastekylää.

The latter part of our month in New Zealand was on North Island. There the first road trip destination was Hobbiton, to see the Lord of the Rings movie set with other dozens of tourists

13. hääpäivä vietettiin maailmanympärireissun aloituskohteessa katsomalla Broadwayllä uudestaan Phantom of the Opera.

Our 13th wedding anniversary was on the third day of our round the world trip and we crowned it on Broadway. Phantom of the Opera was still excellent.

Kapkaupungista eteenpäin jatkaminen aloitettiin viinialueella. Glen Carlou -tila on hieno paikka!

The first stop after Cape Town was the wine area. Glen Carlou winery is a great place!

Kevään matkalla Aasiaan tuli Japaniin mukaan tyttäreni Marianne. Junalippujen hankinta yms. helpottui paljon, kun mukana oli kieltä osaava apu.

On our Spring trip to Asia, my daughter Marianne joined us in Japan. Train tickets and other things were much easier to acquire when somebody knew the language.

Kymmenen päivän matka tehtiin anopin kanssa Irlantiin, jossa ajettiin n. 1698 km rinki pohjois- ja länsirannikon kautta. Kuva alla on heti ekalta kokonaiselta päivältä Giant's causwayltä.

A ten day roadtrip was done with my mother in law to Ireland. There we did a 1055mi round via northern and western coasts. The picture here is taken on our first full day at Giant's causeway.

Instagram Travel Thursdayn aihe on tässä kuussa vapaa ja tähän astisia kuvia selatessa keksin aiheeksi auringonlaskut. Nämä kaikki ovat meidän vuorotteluvapaavuodelta.

Aluksi vietettiin viikon verran Ylläksellä ja siellä hämärien päivien väriksi löytyi sentään jotain. Kuva on keskipäivältä, joten sikäli tässä on tavallaan auringonnousu ja -lasku samalla kertaa.

The subject of Instagram Travel Thursday on this month is free and while browsing my pics I chose to blog about sunsets. All of these are from our sabbatical leave.

We started that year by spending a week in Lapland and there during twilight days were brief moments of colour. This was shot at midday so actually, it's both sunrise and sunset at the same time.

Seuraava auringonlasku on Namibian pääkaupungista Windhoekista. Saatiin majoitus Ilkalta, jonka terassilta sai seurata tätä näytelmää joka ilta.

The next sunset is shot in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. We got the accommodation from Ilkka, and this view on his terrace was our program every evening.

Afrikan matkan jälkeen käytiin taas Ylläksellä ja sen jälkeen noin kuukausi Aasiaa. Tämä auringonlasku näkyi Tokiossa SkyTree -tornista. Yksi silhueteista samassa suunnassa on Fuji-vuori.

After the trip to Africa we visited Lapland and then to Asia for a month. This sunset was shot in Tokyo Skytree. One of the silhouettes in that same direction is famous Mount Fuji.

Kaupungit suurenee. Tänään luotijunalla 36milj. asukkaan Tokioon ja kävely 650m korkeaan Skytree-torniin, josta samaan kuvaan auringonlasku, zeppeliini ja Fujin profiili. *** Cities get bigger. Today a bullet train to 36 million people #Tokyo where we walked to 650m high Skytree. There we saw sunset, zeppelin and profile of mount Fuji. #Japan #blog #twitter

Viimeinen on jo vuoden lopulta maailmanympärimatkan toiseksi viimeisestä kohteesta Fidziltä. Blue Lagoon niminen hotelli oli viereisessä saaressa kuin tuo nuoruuteni pehmopornoleffan kuvauspaikka.

The last Instagram sunset is at the end of the year on the second but last stop of our round the world trip. The Blue Lagoon hotel in Fiji is named after the famous(?) movie shot on the next island.
