Nanoq ja Fäboda

Ja sitten loput kuvat meidän retkeltä. Wahlforss säätiö tukee wärtsiläläisten vapaa-ajan toimintaa ja myönsi rahaa bussiin, joten tänä vuonna lähdettiin Pietarsaareen.

Then the rest of the photos from our recent trip. Wahlforss foundation supports free-time activities of wartsilians and gave money for a bus, so this year we headed to Pietarsaari.

Ensimmäinen kohde oli Arktinen museo Nanoq.

The first destination was the Arctic museum Nanoq.

Saatiin siellä esittelykierros toiminnanjohtajalta.

There we got a guided tour by the executive director.

Paikallinen arktisseikkailija Pentti Kronqvist oli kerännyt kokoelmaansa yhteen paikkaan ja se on vähitellen laajentunut kunnon museoksi.

A local arctic adventurer Pentti Kronqvist had collected his things to one place and slowly it has expanded as a real museum.

Tuolla on noin 20 rakennusta, joista ehkä neljässä oltiin kierroksella ja muita sai kurkata itsenäisesti.

The place has about 20 buildings of which we visited with the guide to maybe four, the others we could peek independently.

Kelit tosiaan suosi retkeä.

The weather was really good.

Olin varannut kaksi tuntia tuonne, mutta kun opastus vei tunnin ja alkuhässäkkä puoli tuntia, niin jäi vähän liian lyhyeksi.

I had reserved two hours in the program for the museum, but since the guiding took an hour that time was a bit too little.

Museon jälkeen siirryttiin bussilla muutama kilometri Fäbodaan ja paineltiin ensiksi nuotiopaikalle syömään eväitä.

After the museum we drove by bus a few kilometres to Fäboda and walked first to a camp fire site for lunch.

Tuuli jonkin verran, mutta alue oli hieno.

It was a bit windy but the area was nice.

Lopuksi käveltiin kallioiden keskelle tehtyjä reittejä.

After eating we walked the routes built over the shore cliffs.

Pikkuringin jälkeen siirryttiin toiselle reitille kohti näkötornia.

After the shorter round we moved to the pathway towards the viewing tower.

Muutama sata metriä helppoa reittiä ja perillä oltiin.

A few hundred metres and we were there.

Ja sitten vielä paluu.

Then a return via the same route.

Käytiin tuolla Fäbodassa ja Juthbackan markkinoilla Katarinan kanssa pari vuotta sitten ja tuolla linkin albumissa kuvia vähän eri kohdistakin. Hyvää viikkoa! 🍀

I visited a suit rental company as Mikko's driver.

Pihan aroniapuu on taas antanut antimiaan monta pussillista pakastimeen.

The aronia tree in my yard gave again several freezer bags.

Millan synttärikakkukin oli teemaa.

The cake was also according to the theme.

Mökillä otettiin kaksi uutta peliä. Tosin tämä mainio Clever 4ever oli käytännössä saman tyylinen kuin aiempi paljon tykätty That's Pretty Clever.

We played two new games at the cottage. Although this Clever 4ever is practically similar to earlier That's Pretty Clever. Good games!

Toinen uusi peli oli Mariannelta lainassa ollut Terra Mystica. Tämä on jo 14 vuotta vanha klassikko, joka oli ihan hauskaa tapaus. 

The second new game was Terra Mystica that I've borrowed from Marianne. This is already a 14 years old classic, but a good one anyway!

Ja varttia myöhemmin saman lahden rannalla myötäaurinkoon värisävyt oli taas ihan erilaiset.

And 15 minutes later by the same bay the colors were totally different to the East.

Torstaina sattui ainutlaatuinen jono, kun Ruotsinlaiva oli tullut satamaan ja samaan aikaan Wärtsilästä lähti porukat autolla + toinen reitti oli suljettu ratatöiden takia. Oon lähes aina kävellen tai pyörällä, mutta tuona päivänä autolla eka kilometri kesti 23 minuuttia ajaa. Siinä ehti melkein kuunnella yhden Vakoojat -jakson Areenasta.

I usually walk or bicycle to work but on Thursday I thought I'll save time and use my car. When I left work the ferry from Sweden came at the same time and one of two routes was closed due to railroad maintenance. It took me 23 minutes to drive the first kilometre (0,6 mi). I had time to listen to almost one full episode of the Spies podcast.

On my other walk the sky was fifty-fifty sunny.

Vaasan puuvillatehdas on lopettanut toimintansa 1980 ja nykyään näissä tiloissa on yliopisto.

The old cotton factory has been here since 1980 but nowadays the Vaasa University is located here.

Sunnuntaina vietettiin Vaasan Suomi-Amerikka yhdistyksen kanssa USAn 250 vuotisjuhlaa.

On Sunday we had a USA 250 party by Vaasa's Finland-USA association.

Julkaisen Pietarsaaren retkestä ensi viikolla enemmän kuvia, mutta jääkarhut on kyllä isoja! Tämä pystyssä 2,5 m korkea naaras painoi 400 kiloa, kun taas uros voi olla metriä korkeampi ja painaa 800 kg. Suurin maalla elävä peto. Arktiksella on niin vähän ruokaa, että ne yrittää saada ihmisetkin kiinni.

I'll publish more photos of that bus trip next week but this polar bear was quite a sight! This was a small female weighing 400 kg (882 pounds) whereas males can be one meter taller and double the weight. It's the biggest predator living on land and since the arctic has so little food they hunt humans too.

Malta vielä!

Kävin kuvarästejä läpi ja yksi käsittelemätön oli näemmä joulun 2021 matka yksin Maltalle. Tapasin Katarinan reilu kaksi viikkoa tämän jälkeen ja loppu onkin historiaa. Ehkä nämä rästit vähitellen hoituu ennen eläkkeelle jäämistä.

I started going through my unpublished photos and one of those seems to be my trip alone to Malta in December 2021. I met Katarina about two weeks after this trip. Maybe I will get these waiting photos handled before I retire.

Olin tilannut heti kentältä taksin viereiseen pienempään saareen Gozolle ja siellä majoitus Blue Waters -sukellusfirman vieressä saman omistajan majatalossa. Olin siellä ainoa vieras koko tuolla viikolla, ei oikein sesonkia.

I had booked a taxi from the airport to the next smaller island, Gozo. There I had accommodation in Blue Waters diving company's owner's guest house. I was the only visitor during that week, clearly not the busiest season.

Otin heti ekaksi päiväksi pari sukellusta, niin näkee kannattaako jatkaa. Ihan ok, mutta kaksi riitti. Ekana käytiin katsomassa pääsaarien välissä olevalle pikkusaarelle Cominolle menevää vesiputkea.

I took a two tank dive for the first day so I could see if it's worth doing more. It was OK but enough for me. We first checked out the fresh water pipe going to the nearby Camino island.

Ajettiin toiselle rannalle ja mukaan tuli toinen asiakas. Raskaat pullot laittoi asennon vähän etukumaraan.

Then we drove to another site, and picked another client on the way. The heavy bottles made my pose a bit forward leaning.

Iltapäivällä lähdin kävellen satamaan. Ylhäältä näkyi se viereinen pikkusaari ja muutakin maisemaa.

That afternoon I walked to the harbour. From above I got a nice view of the sea and that neighbouring little island.

Palasin takaisin rantaa menevää polkua, vähän jo ehti aurinko laskea ennen kämpille pääsyä.

I walked back to my room via a path by the seaside. It was a bit dark before I got there.

Seuraavana päivänä 23.12. lähdin bussilla Victoriaan, jossa tuli kurkattua yksi kirkko.

The next day was 23rd December and I took a bus to Victoria town. A church there:

Linnoituksen huipulta oli hienoja maisemia.

The top of the castle had nice views.

The other direction was more green.

And the little hill in the middle zoomed.

A lunch break

Kävelin linnoituksen taakse ja tämä oli ainoa dronekuva, jonka ehdin ottaa. Vehje lähti melkein heti laskeutumaan jonkin dronepysäyttimen signaalista ja vartija käveli kohti. Mä kaivoin valmiiksi esille lupakirjan ja Maltan nettisivujen tiedon, että saa lennättää, mutta väitti historiallisten kohteet olevan kiellettyjä. 😒

After lunch I walked behind the castle and I got only this one drone photo of it. My drone started to land by itself due to some stopping device and a guard walked to me. I showed him my EU drone permission and Malta drone rules, but he claimed that historical sites were forbidden to shoot (even though Malta's website had no such mention). 😒

Loppupäivänä tuli kurkattua vielä toinenkin kirkko, oli kyllä koristeellista.

During the rest of the day I checked out yet another church. Those are heavily decorated.

And a little cemetery near my accommodation.
