Hiihtolomaa kohti

Viikon 8 kuvana on taas meidän valokuvauskerhon hallituksen pystyttämä Vuoden kuva näyttely. Ja nyt tuli 15 kuvaa enemmän kuin viime vuonna!

The photo of week 8 is again our photo club's yearly gallery that I set up with other guys. We got 15 more photos than last year!

Viikon 9 kuva taitaa myös olla lähes sama kuin parina viime vuotena. Ajettiin Ylläkselle ja aloitettiin sunnuntaina hiihtelyt. 

Week 9's photo may also be almost the same as in some previous years. We drove to Lapland and started skiing daily.

Takaisin Vaasaan. Tuli käytyä pitkästä aikaa Bock'sissa. Siellä oli vielä ihan jouluinen tunnelma.

Back to Vaasa. I visited Bock's brewery, it's been a while. They still had a Holiday season atmosphere.

Pidettiin siellä After work -tapaaminen, mukava ilta. 

We had an After work meeting. A nice evening.

Perjantaina ajettiin Seinäjoelle näyttämään äiteelle Pollea. Ja käytiin syömässä lempipaikassaan.

On Friday we drove to Seinäjoki to show my new car to my mother. And had lunch in her favourite restaurant.

Seinäjoelta ajettiin viikonlopuksi Bergööseen. Metsä näytti jo kevättalvisen valoisalta.

From there we drove to Katarina's cottage for the weekend. The forest looked almost like Spring'y light.

Seuraavalla viikolla aloitin Lapin reissun valmistelut valitsemalla mukaan otettavat pelit. Ja ekan kerran tällä vuosituhannella unohdin ottaa mukaan oikean kameran ja oon vain kännykän varassa!

Next week I started preparing for the Lapland trip by first choosing the games. And for some reason for the first time I forgot to take a real camera so now I'm here with just a mobile phone camera.

Tiistaina jumpan jälkeen näkyi jännä auringonlasku Vaskiluodon takaa. Hiukan myöhästyin kirkkaimmasta kohdasta.

On Tuesday after the fitness training I spotted a nice sunset. I slightly missed the brightest moment.

Keskiviikkona tuli käytyä kauden varmaan ainoa meren jäällä hiihtely. Ylläksellä on kyllä käyty jo kerran järven jäällä.

On Wednesday I got probably the only sea ice skiing of this season. At Ylläs we've already skied on the lake ice.

Lauantai-iltana perillä mökillä. Hienoja tykkylumisia puita täynnä kaikki tienoot.

We arrived to the cottage on Saturday evening. There are nice snowy trees everywhere.

Kamat autosta lämpimään mökkiin ja pari erää District Noiria ennen nukkumaan menoa.

We had a warm cottage waiting so just carried the stuff in and took a couple of rounds of District Noir before bedtime.

Sunnuntaina aamusta oli mökin ikkunasta nätin näköistä, mutta odotettiin puoleen päivään, että lämpeni mukavaan -5C tasoon.

On Sunday the view from the cottage window was nice, but we waited until noon so that the temperature rose to nice -5 C (23 F).

Odotellessa ensipuraisu Glen More -peliä. Ihan hyvä pikkutapaus! 

While waiting we took our first round of Glen More. It's a really good little game.

Ekana päivänä mentiin Ylläsjärven kylään järven yli kiertäen. Rinteet näkyi taas hienosti, ei tosiaankaan eka kerta tätä kuvaa julkaistuksi, mutta kertaus on...

On the first day we skied to Ylläs lake to make a round trip. The downhill skiing slopes were nicely visible (certainly not the first pic of this scenery).

Hyvin lähti käytiin hiihtelyt, 14,5 km ekana päivänä.

We started our skiing well, 14,5 km (9 mi) on the first day.

Viimeiset Etelä-Afrikan kuvat

Viimeinen koko päivä vietettiin siis Stellenboschin alueella. Aamiaisen jälkeen Katarina tutki opaskirjasta kohteita tuolle päivää ja mä otin kuvan kerralla kahteen suuntaan.

The last full day in South Africa was spent at the Stellenbosch area. After breakfast Katarina studied the guide book to find visiting places for the day and I took a photo in both directions.

Ajettiin Stellenboschin keskustaan ostarin parkkihalliin ja lähdettiin kävelemään. Tuon gallerian veistokset oli aika jänniä. Ja siellä oli harjoittelijana joku likka Englannista.

We drove to a Mall parking hall in downtown Stellenbosch and walked around the city. The sculptures in that gallery were interesting. And the trainee girl was there from England. 

Pääkohteena oli Stellenboschin yliopiston kasvitieteellinen puutarha. Paljon bonsai-puita ja nättiä lumpeen kukkia.

The main target was Stellenbosch university botanical garden. A lot of bonsai trees and lovely flowers.

Tuossa ravintolan edessä näkyykin trubaduuri kitaransa kanssa. Syötiin lounas siellä.

There's a guy playing guitar in front of that restaurant. We had lunch there.

Paluumatkalla käytiin katsomassa naapurin isompi viinitila.

On our drive back we checked out the bigger winery next to ours.

Lähtöpäivänä piti keksiä viideksi tunniksi ohjelmaa. Matkalla Helderbergin suojelualueelle pysähdyttiin värikkäiden patsaiden vetämänä turistikauppaan.

We had to come up with something to do for the last day as our flight departed quite late. On our way to Helderberg nature reserve we stopped at a tourist shop that had colourful statues.

Kapkaupungissa ostettiin Meebosia ja kun tuolla näkyi niitä, niin otin heti kolme tuliaisiksi. En vain hoksannut, että me tykättiin sokeroiduista versioista - nämä olikin suolattuja. 😬 Työkavereilta tuli kommenttia, että maistuu ihan koiranruualta. 🫣

In Cape Town I bought Meebos and we both liked those. So I took three packages as a souvenir. What I didn't realise was that we liked sugared ones, but these were a salty version. 😬 My workmates commented that they tasted like dog food. 🫣

Pilvet vuoren yllä teki hienon tausta näille värikkäille patsaille.

Clouds created a nice background for colourful statues. 

Helderbergistä julkaisin jo aiemmin yhden maisemakuvan, tässä alueelle kävellessä nähty maisema.

I published earlier a beautiful scenery from Helderberg, here's the view on our walk there.

Qatarin lentokentällä bongasin toistaiseksi kalliimman näkemäni pullon. Halusivat tuosta ylimmästä vajaat 65 tuhatta dollaria. Ostin kyllä mieluummin ja paljon halvemmalla Polestarini.

I noticed at the Qatar airport the most expensive bottle I've ever seen. The price for the upper bottle was almost 65 thousand dollars. I spent much less to my Polestar.

Sitten vielä nörttiyhteenveto meidän reissusta.

Then the summary of our trip.

Siinäpä nyt kaikki reissusta julkaistaviksi kuviksi valitut - löytyvät nyt täältä albumista. Karsintojen jälkeen itselleni jäi näiden lisäksi vielä 3438 kuvaa, mutta nyt ne on lajiteltu. Luultavasti rakentelen vielä jotain videotakin tuolta.

That was all the photos I picked for publishing - you can see all of them in this album. After cleaning folders I still have 3438 other pics in addition to these, but now those are organised. Probably at some point I will create a video of the trip too.

Talvi ja auto

Viikon 6 kuva on taas valittu hienouden perusteella. Töihin kävellessä vähän ennen aamu-seitsemää kuu oli Kuntsin puiston puun takana ja pakkasesta huolimatta pysäytti ottamaan kuvaa.

The photo of week 6 is picked by its looks. I was walking to work at just before 7 a.m. and even though it was freezing I had to stop to shoot this one. Moon was just behind the tree.

Viikon 7 kuvana on mun Polestar 2. Oon mainostanut, että lautapelit on paljon halvempaa kuin autokuume, mutta nolosti kävi. Mulla on autot olleet keskimäärin 4,8v ja Peugeot ehti olla vain 2,5v. Se oli kyllä hyvä, mutta tuntui että nyt siinä oli vielä riittävästi vaihtoarvoa jäljellä. Ja muita perusteluksi keksittyjä hyviä syitä.

The photo of week 7 is my new car (Polestar 2). I've been saying that buying board games is much cheaper than having a 'car fever' but here we are... I've used my cars on average 4,8 years and Peugeot I kept just for 2,5 years. I liked it but now it had still enough exchange value left. And other logical reasons I came up with. 

Uusia pelejä otettu pöydälle aina väleissä. Tämä Dunhuangin kauppiaat oli taas selvästi Katarinan heiniä, mä en meinaa voittaa millään. Onneksi sitten taas on jotkut pelit mun tyylisiä.

We've played new games between the old familiar ones. This Merchants of Dunhuang was clearly Katarina's cup of tea as she won every game. Fortunately, there also other games where I win.

Artturi on selvästi edistynyt veteen tottumisessa, käytiin taas yhtenä perjantaina muutama tunti kahdestaan uimahallissa.

My grandson Artturi has clearly learnt to be more calm in the water. We visited again together in the swimming pool on Friday.

Sunnuntaina tuli kurkattua Ritzin elokuvafestareiden yksi pätkä. Hauskan erilaiset kolme lyhytelokuvaa.

On Sunday I checked out part of the film festival in Ritz. I saw there three totally different short films.

Pakkaset on luoneet hienoja näkymiä, tämä matkalla mökille Bergööhön.

The winter creates nice views. This one was on our way to the cottage.

Oon aina ihastellut tätä Katarinan mökin kylttiä: "En minä pomottele - minulla on vain paremmat ideat". 😃

Toisena perjantaina tuli käytyä Ritzissä katsomas Kurikan sukujuurilla olevan vaasalaisen Osku Elias Pienimäen ekaa standup showta. Muistaakseni isoisänsä olikin meillä uuden navetan muurarina. Esiintyminen on kyllä verissään, oli jo 11-vuotiaana vuonna 2010 telkkarissakin Matti Nysänä. 

On the second Friday I visited the Ritz again to see the first standup show of Osku Elias. His father's roots are in Kurikka and I remember his grandfather doing masonry at our place when my parents built a new cow house.

Kävelyllä tuli testattua vihdoinkin Rewellin kiinalainen buffetti.

We finally tested the chinese restaurant buffet in the Rewell center.

Aina pitää yrittää syödä koko rahan edestä, onneksi ei kovin usein tuu käytyä.

It's good that we don't visit those too often as there's a need to always eat for the whole money.

Monta hienoa näkymää Söderfjärdenin kävelyllä.

Harmittavan vähän on vain lunta. Ekana talvenamme käytiin suksilla peltoja pitkin alueen keskellä Meteoriihessä.

We don't have too much snow, even though it's been freezing a long time. On our first Winter we could ski over the fields.

Paluu kotiin lähenöö

Vielä yksi Addon bongaus ennen paluumatkan kuvia. Eläinpuiston varmaan isoin yllätys oli tien vieressä ruokaillut kilpikonna. Tuo jos olisi ollut 2m tai kauempana tiestä, niin oltaisiin ajettu vauhdilla ohi.

One more animal from Addo before posting photos about our return to Capetown region. This turtle was probably the biggest surprise. If it hadn't been just next to the road we surely would have missed it.

Palattiin vaihtelun vuoksi sisämaan kautta, varsinkin kun se oli hiukan lyhyempikin reitti. Siellä vain ei ole kovin paljoa mitään, niin eka päivä oli lähes 400km ja varsinkin alkuun valittu reitti surkeaa nimismiehenkiharaa. Tässä jo nätimpää:

We returned to the West via inland as it was a shorter and new route. But there were quite a few places to sleep so our first day was almost 400 km (250mi) and the beginning part was quite bumpy. Here we got finally a bit nicer road:

Yhdessä kohdassa piti ajaa pitkään jonossa, vihdoin ohipäästessä nähtiin mitä siinä kuljetettiin.

At one point we had to drive in a slow queue. Here's what we saw while finally getting past it.

Noiden jälkeen tuli 40km yksikaistaista täryyttävää betonitietä.

After that we got 40 km (25mi) of one lane concrete road. Bumpy again.

Mutta majoitus Outdshoornissa oli mukava. Käytiin uinnin jälkeen kävelyllä keskustassa pizzalla. Iltaa istuttiin altaan lähellä meidän omassa ulko-olohuoneessa.

But the accommodation in Outdshoorn was nice. We swam a bit and walked downtown for a pizza. For evening we had own outdoor living room near this pool

Seuraavana päivänä ajettiin 265 km yhtä eksoottisten maisemien läpi Robertsoniin. 

On the next day we drove to Robertson (265 km / 164 mi). Nice views kept coming.

Pieni taukokävely taukopaikalla, jossa olisi ollut polku ylhäällä olevalle linnoituksen rauniolle.

Perillä Robertsonissa tsekattiin uima-allas. Oli se mukava, mutta ei ehtinyt ponkaisun jälkeen uida, kun oli jo toisessa päässä.

Once in Robertson we checked out the pool. It was nice, but didn't have time to swim as you were at the other end after one kick.

Käveltiin syömään ja ekana vastaan tuli Neljä serkkua -viinitila. 

We walked to a nearby Four cousins winery.

Ekana näkyi kauppa ja viininmaistelutila.

The first room was a shop and wine tasting.

Peremmällä ravintola. Katarina valitsemassa viiniä kolmesta vaihtoehdosta.

After that was the restaurant. Katarina got to choose the wine from three options.

Hyvää ruokaa ja suomalaisittain edukas, vaikka oli vähän parempi paikka.

The food was good and quite inexpensive in Finland's standards even though it was a bit better place.

Seuraavana päivänä oli ajoa enää 132 km. Pysähdyttiin Worcesterissa kurkaamassa puisto ja fyysinen Temu-kauppa.

The next day we had only 132 km (82mi) to drive. We stopped at Worcester to walk in a park and visited a physical Temu shop.

Violettipuut vetää aina huomion puoleensa.

The purple tree always catches my attention.

Ennen Stellenboschia poistuttiin taas yhdeltä maksulliselta tieltä. Nämä tullipaikat meni ihan sujuvasti. Meno näillä teillä oli sujuvaa ja ei nyt niin kallista, maksettiin noista yhteensä 17 € / nenä.

Leaving yet another toll road before Stellenbosch. These were always quite smooth to go through. And using them wasn't too expensive, for all the drives we paid a total of 17€ per nose.

Stellenboschissa huomattiin, että majapaikan ravintola oli auki vain aamiaisen. Uber Eats toimitti meille sulavasti ruuat ennen viinin maistelua. 

In Stellenbosch we noticed that the restaurant of the Winery was open only for breakfast. But Uber Eats delivered us food smoothly and fast.

Huoneen hintaan kuului viininmaistelu ja parin euron lisällä sen sai päivitettyä viini + suklaa maisteluksi.

The price of accommodation includes a wine tasting and for a couple of euros we upgraded it to wine + chocolate tasting.

Tämä Lovane on Stellenboschin pienin viinitila, oltiin siellä viimeiset kaksi yötä.

This Lovane is the smallest winery of Stellenbosch. We stayed there the last two nights.

Tuolla oikean puolen yläkerrassa oli vieraiden huoneet. Päärakennus ja viinikellari vasemmalla.
