Viikon kuva - C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS)

Komeetta C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) on jo etääntymässä ja palaa takaisin 80 tuhannen vuoden päästä tai ei ollenkaan. Hurjaa!  Paljon parempiakin kuvia on näkynyt, mutta tämä oli paras, johon itse pääsin. Vertailuna upea kuva.

Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is going farther away and will return in 80 000 years. Or maybe never. Wow! I've seen some amazing photos of it, but this was the best one of those that I managed to shoot.

On Tuesday I used the first one of movie tickets that I got from a friend (Heavier trip). On Wednesday after work I drove to see Katarina during her training week.

Käytiin kävelyllä viereisellä kuntoradalla. 

We walked in a forest nearby.

Ja sen jälkeen syömään illallista. 

After which we had dinner.

Illan lopuksi pelattiin vielä Res Arcana ja kaksi erää The White Castlea. Sitten tunnin ajo takaisin Vaasaan.

And finally one round of Res Arcana and two games of The White Castle. Then a one hour drive back to Vaasa.

Torstaina yritin ensin bongata komeettaa Mansikkasaaressa, mutta taivaanranta lännessä oli liian pilvinen auringonlaskun jälkeen.

On Thursday I first tried to see the comet just after the sunset, but clouds were still covering the horizon in the West.

Reilu tunti kotona ja kotirantaa kurkatessa taivas oli kirkastunut. Silmin en oikein enää erottanut kunnolla komeettaa, mutta kuvassa näkyi. Tuossa se on melko keskellä.

I waited about an hour at home and walked to my home shore. Sky was now almost clear, I couldn't see it with my bare eyes but the camera saw it. The comet is here almost in the middle.

Perjantaina kävin hakemassa uuden sängyn. Tämä on selvästi kovempi, kun havainto muualta on, että nukun sellaisessa ehkä paremmin.

On Friday I picked up my new bed. I've noticed that I've been sleeping a bit better in harder beds, so let's see how well it works at home.

Lauantaina Sulvalla tuli Katarinan tytär Nadja lapsineen lounaalle. 

On Saturday Katarina's daughter Nadja visited for lunch with her kids.

Illalla kulutettiin lisää leffalippuja ja 'Se päättyy meihin' oli kyllä ajatuksia herättävä. Sunnuntaina olisi ollut Tarjan 61v-synttärit. Mutta elämä meni nyt näin, että käytiin Katarinan kans uimahallilla, pelattiin ja katottiin leffa 'Mies nimeltä Otto'. 

On that evening we used two more free movie tickets to 'It ends with us'. What a thought provoking movie. Sunday would have been Tarja's 61st birthday. But life is strange and we just visited with Katarina in the swimming hall, played and saw 'A Man Called Otto'.

Tätä Imperial Settlerssiä otettiin vkonlopun aikana kolme erää. Parissa ekassa meni säännöt aika väärin ja vaikka kolmas meni oikein, niin jotenkin turhauttava oli, vaikka mulla oli odotukset korkealla. Näin kyllä tuon potentiaalin, mutta ehkä vaatisi 3-4 pelaajaa. Myyntiin, jos joku ostaa. Tai joskus uusinta kun aika kullannut muistoja.

We played the Imperial Settlers three rounds during the weekend. Missed some rules in the first two ones and even though the third went right, it was still quite frustrating. I had high hopes for this and I see the potential, but I think it requires more than two players, hence now it's for trade. Or maybe we'll try it again next year if nobody buys it first.

Viikon kuva - Heroes ComicCon 2024

Viikon kuva on Tampereelta, jossa käytiin Heroes Comic Con -tapahtumassa. Hienoja pukuja löytyi paljon ja parhaat kuvat sai, kun vain pyysi luvan ottaa kuvan.

The photo of the week is from Heroes Comic Con where we visited last Saturday. Many participants had amazing costumes and I got the best photos just by asking permission.

Mutta taas aloitus alusta. Maanantaina olin apuna itsepalvelu-kierrätysreissulla Vikbyssä.

But lets start from the beginning. On Monday we visited DIY recycling station.

Jo parina vuotena on mennyt ohi Björkön kalojen massavaellus pikkupuroa pitkin kutemaan siihen sisäjärveen. Nyt mentiin paikalle ajoissa, eka piti verrata merikotkan kokoa.

Already for 2-3 years I've missed a fish mating event in near-by area. There's a little lake to which thousands of fish go every Spring via a narrow creek. But first I compared myself to a sea eagle.

Oikeassa paikassa oltiin, mutta väärään kellon aikaan. Lokit parveili puron suulla odottamassa samaa. Lähtivät heti kauemmas, kun mentiin kohti, mutta välittömästi taas palasivat väijylle.

We were at the right place but the timing was still wrong. A lot of seagulls were waiting at the place, left when we came and then returned immediately here.

Kaloja ei näkynyt, liikkuvat kai hämärän aikaan. Ensi vuonna sen on pakko onnistua!

The fish move around twilight so our timing was not right. But next year it has to happen!

Samalla reissulla käytiin Raippaluodon panimossa pizzalla ja kurkkaamassa siltaa uudesta paikasta.

On the same trip we visited a brewery pizzeria and checked out our 'famous' the (earlier) longest bridge in Finland from a new direction.

Torstaina mentiin pizzojen kanssa äiteen luo ennakko-äitienpäivä-vierailulle. Mukana Elsa ja Mikko.

On Thursday we did a pre-Mothers day visit with pizzas to my mother. Along with Mikko and Tarja's mother. 

Sunnuntaina oli sitten Katarinan juhlat. Tarjosi ruuat perheelleen ja perään otettiin muutama peli (Azul ja Splendor Marvel). 

The second mothers day happening was on Sunday. Katarina made a dinner for her family. Afterwards a few board game rounds (Azul and Splendor Marvel).

Perjantaina ajettiin tiukasti pakattuna kohti Tamperetta ja tuota Comic Con messua. 

On Friday we packed ePeugeot tightly and headed towards Tampere and Comic Con. 

Aloitettiin ilta Pirkon ja Esan luona kyläillen. Kiitos hyvästä illallisesta! 

We started with a visit to Pirkko and Esa. A good dinner crowned the long drive.

Seuraavaksi oli jo lasten nukkumaanmenoaika ja siirryttiin Scandic Edeniin.

Next it was already time for kids to go to sleep in our hotel room. 

Järvinäkymä auringonlaskun jälkeen, kun kävin laittamassa auton töpselin päähän.

Lauantaina lähdettiin Messuhalliin katsomaan Conia. Katarina valitsi jostain syystä mieluummin IKEAn...

On Saturday morning we went to the Con hall (this was the main hall). For some reason Katarina preferred going to IKEA.

Messuilla oli myyntikojuja, mainostajia ja erilaisia esityksiä. Tässä tankotanssija.

There were a lot of sales booths, ads for movies etc and different performances.

Artturilla riitti ihmeteltävää ja tuttuja hahmoja. Tykkää myös roboteista ja R2D2 herätti heti huomion. 

Artturi had a lot to see - both new and familiar characters. He likes robots and R2D2 immediately caught his attention. 

100 tuntematonta projekti sai taas jatkoa, kun osallistujiksi nro 66 ja 67 lupautuivat Elsa (pukeutuneena Mantis-hahmoksi) ja Evelina (Loki).

My 100 strangers project continued as Elsa (#66 as Mantis) and Evelina (#67 as Loki) promised to participate. 

Messuilla oli tavattavana julkkiksia, näyttelijät yleensä maksettua jonotuslippua vastaan. Tässä Kit Harington, joka näytteli Jon Snowta Game of Throne -sarjassa. Oli myös ainakin Eternals -leffassa.

There was a possibility to buy tickets to meet famous actors for signature and a fan photo. Here's Kit Harington who played Jon Snow in The Game of Thrones. He was also in Eternals movie and in several other ones.

Natalie Tena oli samassa tv-sarjassa. Ja lisäksi on ollut viidessä Harry Potter leffassa. 

Also Natalie Tena participated to GoT. She's been in also five Harry Potter movies.

Don Rosa oli paikalla. Häneltä olisi saanut nimmarin ilman pääsylippuakin, mutta sinnekin oli niin pitkä jono, että kärryjen kanssa ei sellaista edes harkittu.

Also Don Rosa was there. All needed for meeting him was just to wait in the queue. But also it was so long that with kids we didn't even consider it.

Uudelle Mad Max-elokuvalle Furiosalle oli oma mainososastonsa.

The oncoming Mad Max universe movie Furiosa had its own section.

Pimennyksen hetki 360-videona

Tulossa on vielä kasattuakin videota Teksasin matkasta, mutta nyt heitin jo insta360-kameran tuotoksen suoraan sellaisenaan Youtubeen. Tuo on siis 360-video, jota voi käännellä eri suuntiin. Video alkaa pari minuuttia ennen täydellistä pimennystä ja loppuu vähän sen jälkeen.

I'm planning to create a proper video too, but here's already an unedited 360-video from the total solar eclipse in Paris, Texas. You can change the viewing direction by dragging the picture with your mouse. The video starts about two minutes before the totality and ends a bit after it.

Viikon kuva - Täydellinen auringon pimennys!

Kolmas kerta nyt toden sanoi. Oltiin Tarjan kanssa 2012 Australian koilisnurkassa pimennysretkellä, mutta pilvi tuli eteen juuri kriittisen 10 minuutin ajaksi. Seuraavaksi 2017 meillä oli varattuna lennot, auto ja majoitus USAn luoteisnurkan pimennykseen, mutta Tarjan eka syöpä peruutti reissun. Nyt Katarinan kanssa onnistuttiin! 

Third time's a charm. We visited the NE corner of Australia in 2012 with Tarja to see the eclipse, but a cloud covered the Sun just for the critical 10 minutes. Next in 2017 we had flights etc to NW corner of USA to see the eclipse but Tarja's first cancer canceled the trip. Now with Katarina it finally succeeded.

Alunperin oli miettinyt kunnianhimoisempaa kuvaussuunnitelmaa, mutta vanhan Sonyn aurinkokalvo ei toiminut uudessa Sonyssä. Onneksi vaihdoin jossain neuvottuun tapaan, eli eka pimennys käytetään vain fiilistelyyn.  

Originally I had an ambitious plan for shooting it but my sun cover didn't work with the new Sony camera. So I did as suggested somewhere: the first eclipse is best to be just enjoyed without any bigger photo objectives.

Edeltävä yö oltiin Dallasin länsipuolella ja aamusta näytti vielä uhkaavan pilviseltä. Kysyin Ursan matkaa vetävältä Jari Mäkiseltä heidän suunnitelmansa ja teimme saman: ajo ensin Pariisiin ja siellä jatkon pohdinta.

Our previous night's accommodation was west of Dallas and that morning looked quite cloudy. I asked a guy who was a tour guide for the Finnish eclipse group about their plan and did the same: drive first to Paris, Texas and check more in there.

Highwayt tuli tutuksi, kun niitä pitkin oli nopein liikkua Teksasin pitkiä välimatkoja. Ilman navigaattoria olisi ollut kyllä stressaavaa pysyä kärryillä, että mistä exitistä milloinkin pois.

We saw a lot of highways as those are the fastest way to handle the long distances of Texas. It would have been even more stressful to keep track of routes & exits without the navigator. 

Paris, Texas oli varautunut tapahtumaan t-paidoin, mutta niitä oli aika niukasti. Otettiin riskillä viimeiset M-kokoa, vaikka pimennyksen näkeminen oli vielä epävarmaa.  

Paris, Texas had t-shirts for sale for the occasion but they had underestimated the amount. We bought the last ones already before the eclipse - it's good that we didn't wait until the shirt's message was true.

Harkinnassa oli vielä lähteä ajamaan kaakkoon, mutta jäätiin torille ja 20 min ennen pimennystä aurinko rupesi onneksi vilkkumaan pilvien läpi. 

Once there we considered driving to SE, but decided to stay on the town square. We were lucky as 20 minutes before the eclipse the Sun started to be visible through clouds.

Laitoin 360-kameran ottamaan videota ennen h-hetkeä. Sitten pimennyksen aikana otin itse vain muutaman kuvan ja katsottiin kiikarilla, jolla näkyi hienosti niitä violetteja flare-purkauksia.

I set my 360-camera to take a video a few minutes before the totality. Otherwise we just enjoyed the event and I took a few photos. With the binoculars we could see even those pink flares coming from the sun.

Tuon jälkeen käytiin katsomassa vielä kaupungin Civic centerin aluetta. Siellä oli ollut iso pimennystapahtuma myyntikojuineen. Ja paremmin varustautuneita kuvaajia.

Afterwards we headed towards the Civic center. There's a park and it seemed like the main event place with sales booths etc. And better prepared photographers.

Tietysti täällä piti olla oma Eiffel-torni. Cowboy-hattu oli vähän mauton, mutta sopi tyyliin. Pariisi-käynnistä tuli 'turhaa' ajoa 463 km, kun motellin pihallakin olisi näkynyt sama pimennys, mutta tuota ei tiennyt etukäteen eikä harmita yhtään. Ja olisi jäänyt yhteisöllinen katselu + t-paita kokematta.

Naturally, they also have their own Eiffel tower. I find that cowboy hat a bit tacky but it fits the style. Due to this trip we got 463 km (288 mi) of 'futile' drive since we could have seen the eclipse at our motel, but couldn't know that in advance. So no regrets, especially since we would have missed communal experience and t-shirts.

Tiistaina ajettiin aluksi Dallasin keskustaan katsomaan Kennedyn murhapaikkaa. Alueella kierteli paljon turisteja.

On the next day, Tuesday, we first drove to downtown Dallas to see the JFK murder scene. There are a lot of tourists there.

Tuolta kuudennen kerroksen oikean puoleisimmasta ikkunasta ammuttiin.

The shot came from the sixth floor's rightmost window.

Ja tässä kadunpätkällä oli auto menossa.

And the car was at this part of the street.

Tuon jälkeen ajettiin Dallas TV-sarjan Southfork ranchille.

Next we drove to Southfork ranch of the Dallas tv-series.

Museo-kiertelyn jälkeen meidät ajettiin kärryillä itse päärakennuksen luo. Kaikki vieraat taisivat olla ulkomaalaisia. 

After checking the museum they took us to the main building. I think all the visitors were outside of the USA.

Huoneet oli sisustettu kullekin hahmolle. Ja lisäksi oli tämä JR:n ampumislavaste. 

Each room was decorated for one character of the show. Also there was this murder scene of JR's shooting.

Rakennuksen julkisivu. Ensimmäiset omistajat kyllästyivät, kun välillä kotiin palatessa oli sarjan faneja pyörimässä tontilla ja uimassa heidän uima-altaassaan.

Keskiviikkona oli iltapäiväksi luvassa sadetta, joten mentiin ennen sitä Dallasin kasvitieteelliseen puutarhaan. Hintava vierailu (47 USD) mutta oli hieno paikka! 

For Wednesday afternoon there was a forecast of rainy weather, so we went to the Botanical garden forenoon. A bit pricey (47 USD) but afterwards we thought it was worth it. A really nice place!

Alue oli tosi iso ja porukkaa paljon töissä, joten ei ihme että varoja pitää hankkia jotenkin.

The area is huge and there's a lot of people working so no wonder they need to get money.

Vierailun lopussa alkoi sade ja se kiihtyi kovaksi. Syötiin Panera Bread -paikassa ja kun kaikkiin puhelimiin tuli ao. varoitus, niin siirryttiin viereiseen ostariin 'turvaan' muutamaksi tunniksi. Kaatosade voi tehdä syviä vesialtaita teiden alaviin kohtiin ja joskus ihmiset hukkuvat niihin! 

At the end of our visit the rain started and it got quite heavy. We drove to eat at Panera Bread and after this warning came to all phones we moved to a near-by shopping mall to be safe for a few hours. 

Kotimatkalle laitettiin päälle Pariisin t-paidat. Selässä lukee "I blacked out for 4 min 2 sec - April 8, 2024 1:44 p.m. - Paris, Texas" eli "minulla pimeni 4 minuutiksi ja 2 sekunniksi". Lentokentällä tuli paidan ansiosta juttua kahteen kertaan muitten pimennysturistien kanssa.

For our return trip we put on our Paris t-shirts. The back says "I blacked out for 4 min 2 sec - April 8, 2024 1:44 p.m. - Paris, Texas". At the airport we got to talk twice to other eclipse tourists thanks to these. 

Kotona oli taas aika tottua viileään. Käytiin kiertämässä Onkilahti.

Back in Finland it was again time to get used to cool weather. We walked around the Onkilahti.

Iltapäivällä vietiin tuliaisia Sulvalle ja auringossa tarkeni grillata kevyemminkin. Illalla oli lisää sukulointia, kun iltapalalle tuli vieraaksi Maaret, Esa ja Elsa.

In the afternoon we took our first souvenirs to Sulva for Katarina's family along with some sausage grilling. That night we got more family meetings as Maaret, Esa and Elsa joined us for dinner.

Aamiainen Amerikassa vaihtui taas tuttuun ja terveellisempään Katarinan vakio-smoothieen.

No more 'breakfast in America' but back to Katarina's familiar healthy smoothie. 

Sunnuntaina pyöräiltiin vajaa 36 km ja käytiin syömässä Raippaluodon sillan lähellä.

On Sunday we did a 36 km (22 mi) bicycle trip and ate picnic lunch near the Raippaluoto bridge.

Merivesi oli kirkasta ja luultavasti viileää.

Sunnuntaina päivän lopuksi kävin Artturin kanssa katsomassa Kuntsin näyttelyn viimeisen päivän viimeisen tunnin. Siitä kotiin hetkeksi leikkimään ja Katarinan kanssa kävelytettiin jäpikkä kotiinsa valmistautumaan nukkumaan.

At the end of Sunday I took my grandson Artturi to his first contemporary art museum visit. Then we walked to my home for some gaming and finally I and Katarina walked to the little fellow's home for his sleeping time.
