Matka jatkuu Etelä-Afrikassa

Ja sitten seuraavat neljä päivää Puutarhareitillä. Mossel Baystä itään jatkettaessa tehtiin pysähdys Knysnan Waterfront-ostarilla.

Then the next four days on the Garden route in South Africa. We continued to the East from Mossel Bay and stopped at the Waterfront in Knysna.

Kierrettiin vähän kauppoja ja syötiin jätskit.

We walked around, checked out some shops and ate ice cream.

Perillä Tsitsikammassa saatiin heti huone ja pulahdettiin altaaseen.

When we arrived at Tsitsikamma we got the room and went directly to the pool.

Nätti kukka vastaaurinkoon.

Otettiin illallinen varhain ja ehdittiin pelata erä Oh My Goods! peliä.

We had an early dinner and had time to play a round of Oh My Goods! game.

Seuraavana aamuna käveltiin läheiseen pyörävuokraamoon. Hetken sai etsiä henkilökuntaa, mutta päästiin matkaan katsomaan 'Myrskyjokea' eli Stormsriveriä.

The next morning we walked to a nearby bicycle rental. It took some time to find personnel there, but eventually we got bikes and headed to see the Stormsriver.

Onneksi käännyttin joelta takaisin ja ehdittiin noin tunnissa takaisin. Pyörien palautuskin sujui iloisesti. 

Fortunately, we turned back from the river and made it back in about an hour. The bicycle returning was also fun.

Syötiin kadun toisella puolella Marilynin 60-luvun ravintolassa. Mukana Elvis ja James Dean, mutta Marilynillekin oli omistettu oma huoneensa.

We had lunch on the other side of the road in Marilyn's 60's Diner. A lot of Elvis and James Dean here, but Marilyn had her own room too.

Tuon jälkeen ajo Stormsriverin joen suuhun, joka on varsinainen luonnonpuistoalue. Kävely kohti riippusiltaa.

After eating we drove to the Stormsriver mouth which is the actual nature park area. Here we're walking towards the suspension bridge.

Tuolla käyvät kaikki alueelle tulevat.

This is the place where everyone visits.

Riippusillalta näkyi kajakkiretken ostaneiden lähtöpaikka.

From the bridge we could see the starting place of kayaking trips.

Paluumatkalla kurkattiin privaattirantaa. Tuo nuoripari lähtikin suunnilleen heti pois ja kun koko ranta oli meillä, niin käytiin kalsariuinnilla. 

On our walk back we checked out this secluded beach. This couple left soon so we got the place for ourselves and did underwear swimming.

Takaisin meren ääreen ja aallot löivät edelleen korkeina.

Back to the sea side and waves hit still quite high.

Rannikko länteen päin oli jylhän komea. Hieno paikka leirintäalueelle.

The shore view towards the West looked good! A nice place for camping.

Leiriytyjillä olikin monenlaista asumusta.

Campers had a lot of different solutions.

Seuraavana päivänä ajettiin Port Elizabethiin.

On the next day we drove to Port Elizabeth.

Meidän hotellin kävelyllä nähtynä. Tuolta huoneestakin oli hienot merinäkymät.

Rannalta pääsi pois tien ali ja se näyttikin jännältä.

We walked below the road from the beach. The place looked cool.

Puistossa taisi olla jokin koululaisten retkipäivä.

There was some kind of outside day for school kids.

Huoneen saamisen jälkeen mentiin ensin syömään rantaravintolaan, sitten ostarille katsomaan lumiukkoa ja muita ihmeitä.

After getting to our room we first had something to eat in a beach restaurant and then walked to a nearby shopping mall to see a snowman and other wonders. 

Lauantaina lähdettiin kohti Addo Elefantti kansallispuistoa. Kierrettiin ruokakaupassa käynnin jälkeen idän kautta, koska puiston ohjeissa oli neuvottu välttämään länsipuolen reittiä. Siellä kuulemma oli ryöstövaara. Täällä ei sellaista näkynyt.

On Saturday we headed to Addo Elephant National park. First groceries and then to the road. When we booked the cottage in Addo they instructed visitors to drive via the Eastern route as on Western part there's been carjackings. Here we didn't see any.

Taas yksi tietyökohdan vuoron odottelu, nyt oltiin jonon ekana. 

Yet another queue for road work. This time we were the first one.

Perillä luonnonpuistossa oli selvät ohjeet, että auton sisällä pitää pysyä. Muuten 79€ sakko ja pois puistosta saattaminen.

At the nature park they had clear instructions to always stay inside the car. Otherwise a 79€ fine and escorting outside of the park.

Käytiin ensin katsomassa pääleirin omaa juomapaikkaa. Suojainen kävely piiloon.

First we checked out the hideout of the main camp. A sheltered walk there.

Jossa sitten istuttiin ja kurkittiin juomassa käyviä eläimiä. 

It was a quit place to sit and to zoom in on all the animals coming to drink.

Tuolla istunnolla kuvatun elefantin jo julkaisinkin aiemmin, myös pahkasikoja kävi paikalla (kuulostaa hauskalta näin kasarilaiselle). 

I earlier published a photo of an elephant that we also saw warthogs during this session. 

Meidän varaama mökki oli vielä remontissa, joten saatiin tuliterä perhemökki kahdella makuuhuoneella.

Our cottage was still being renovated so they gave us a brand new family villa with two bedrooms.

Syötiin päivän pääateria. Tässä vielä terassilta haetuilla tuoleilla ja sohvatyynyn päällä, kun sisällä ei ollut yhtään tuolia. Kävin respassa sanomassa ja pian meille heitettiinkin sisätuolit.

We ate a good late lunch. Here we still sat on the chairs from the balcony (with sofa pillows) as there weren't any chairs inside. I visited the reception and very soon some guy delivered us proper chairs.

Joka paikassa piti käydä uima-altaassa. Täällä olikin vähän isompi.

We always swam when possible and the pool here was a bit bigger.

Garden route - Puutarhareitti

Kapkaupungista autoreissu osuudelle lähtiessä käytiin ensin Rhodes muistomerkillä. 

On the day we started the road trip part we first visited the Rhodes memorial. 

Tuolta oli hienot näkymät Kapkaupungin esikaupunkialueelle.

There was a nice view of the suburbs of Cape Town.

Itse Rhodes oli vieläkin ilman nenää. Edellisellä käynnillä 2016 tuo nenä oli kadonnut viisi kuukautta aiemmin, koska mies oli monen mielestä rasisti, varas ja murhaaja. Vuonna 2020 pääkin oli välillä irrotettu, mutta näköjään sen jälkeen palautettu harteilleen.

Rhodes himself is still without a nose. When I was here last time in 2016 the nose had been cut five months earlier. He was then hated for being a racist, thief and murderer. In 2020 even the head was cut down but now it seems to be back on his shoulders.

Komealla paikalla tuo kuitenkin oli. Aiemmin jo julkaisinkin tuolta takaa valokuvan, kun Scott antoi luvan kuvata itsensä 100 tuntematonta sarjaan.

Anyway, the place looked great. I already published one photo from behind the building when Scott promised to participate in the 100 strangers series.

Tuon jälkeen suunnattiin rantatielle kohti itää, eli ns. puutarhareitille. 

Then we headed to shore road towards East i.e. Garden route. 

Käytiin Stony point luonnonsuojelualueella katsomassa pingviinejä Betty's Bay paikkakunnalla.

We visited Stony point nature reserve to see some penguins near Betty's Bay town.

There were also other birds than penguins.

Jatkettiin matkaa ja käytiin taukokävelyllä toisella rannalla. Uikkarit oli mukana, mutta vesi oli liian kylmää - tämä on vielä Atlantin aluetta, Intian valtameren lämmittävä vaikutus alkaa vasta idempänä.

We drove forward and visited another beach. We had swimming suits with us but the water was too cold. This is still cool Atlantic waters, Indian ocean's warming effect starts further to the East.

Ensimmäinen autoiluyö oli Hermanuksen lähellä. Nätti järvimaisema kävelyllä hotellihuoneen ottamisen jälkeen.

The first roadtrip night near Hermanus. There was nice lake scenery on our walk after checking into our room.

Huone oli tuolla yläkerrassa, uima-altaallakin oli hienot näkymät.

Our room was upstairs, and even the pool had nice views.

Ekan yön jälkeen jatkettiin itään ja käytiin kävelemässä yhdellä rantareitillä.

After the first night we continued to the East and did some walking along a shore path.

Sisämaan kautta kiertäessä oli kymmeniä kilometrejä peltoja. Puimurin tyhjäämistä ei odottanut traktori kuten Suomessa, vaan kaksi täysperävaunurekkaa. 

Then we followed the road inland and saw tens of kilometres of fields. In Finland there's one tractor waiting for the harvester emptying, here there were two full trailer trucks.

Swellendamin majoituksessa isäntä neuvoi kiinnostavaksi vaelluspaikaksi läheisen luonnonsuojelualueen vesiputouksen.  

The owner of Swellendam accommodation advised us of an interesting hiking destination: a waterfall in a nearby nature park.

Koko reitti meni puiden varjossa, niin ei ollut onneksi kuuma. Nousua kyllä riitti pari sataa metriä.

The whole route was below the trees so it wasn't too hot. But the route raised a couple of hundred meters. 

Perillä häiriköitiin jotain nuortaparia. Katseltiin hetken ympärille ja lähdettiin takas autolle.

At the waterfall we disturbed a young couple. We watched the place and started the descent back to our car.

Toisen yöpaikan aamiaishuone oli kotoisa. 

The cozy breakfast room of our second accommodation.

Ja näköalaa riitti. Omistaja puhui terveysongelmistaan ja seuraavana aamuna kaupungilla kiertäessä nähtiinkin kiinteistövälittäjän ikkunassa, että majatalo oli myytävänä. 

And the view was again nice. The owner told us about his health problems. While visiting the town the next morning we noticed that the place was for sale in the window of one real estate agent. 

Kaupungin kirkko oli sisältä erikoisen muotoinen.

The town's church was special looking inside.

Jatkettiin tuona päivänä takaisin meren rannalle Mossel Bayhin. Tämä näkymä oli meidän hotellihuoneen parvekkeelta. Julkaisin jo aiemmin kuvan tuossa näkyvän majakan huipulta.

On that day we drove back to the sea shore in Mossel Bay. This scene is from our hotel room's balcony. I earlier published a scene from the top of that lighthouse.

Majakan linssi on kiinnostava läheltä katsottuna.

The lens of a lighthouse is interesting.

Tuollakin näkyi tamaaneja. Ovat marsun oloisia otuksia, jotka on norsujen lähimpiä sukulaisia. Ärtynyt asenne ainakin tuntui olevan kokoaan isommalta tyypiltä.

Also here we saw Hyraxes. These guinea pig style guys are actually the closest relatives to elephants. At least their resentful attitude felt like from some much bigger creature.

Tuossa vielä vuorovesiallas, jossa käytiin uimassa. Oli mukavaa! Illalla nousuvesi oli niin korkealla, että se huuhteli noiden kivien yli kevyesti. Kuvan yläkulmassa näkyy tuolta niemenkärjestä tuleva maailman pisin kaapeliliuku meren yli (linkin takana video). Harkinta siinä käymisestä loppui, kun olikin sillä hetkellä suljettuna kovan tuulen takia.

Here's the tidal pool where we did swim. Nice! Later that evening the high tide brought water over those rocks and filled the pool easily. On the top right corner of that picture is the world's longest over the ocean zipline (video behind the link). I considered going there but stopped when I heard that it was currently closed due to strong winds.
