20,4v synttärit

Huomasin SusuPetalin blogin 20v-synttäreistä, että myös mulla oli sellaiset neljä kuukautta sitten! Aloitin bloggaamisen 22.5.2005 anonyymina Vuodatuksessa. Seuraavassa kuussa olikin meidän eka iso autoreissu ulkomailla, eli kierrettiin Frankfurtista Hahnin lentokentältä Ranskan läpi Välimeren rannalle ja sieltä Itävallan kautta takas. Tuossa allekirjoittanut 40-vuotiaana matkan varrella.  

I realised recently from a blog friend's 20 year blog-birthday article that actually I also had the same already four months ago! Mine started on May 22 in 2005 as an anonymous blog. Next month we did our first long road trip. We drove from Frankfurt via France to the Mediterranean sea and back via Austria. Here's the undersigned at that trip as a 40 year old traveller.

Tuo oli meidän ainoa pidempi ulkomaan autoilu ilman navigaattoria, pelkän kartan varassa (aiempaa Åren käyntiä en laske, sinne oli helppo löytää). Alkuvuosina ei myöskään varattu majoituksia etukäteen, vaan käytiin aina kysymässä hotelleista paikkaa.

This was our only longer drive in foreign countries without a navigator, just using a map. We visited Åre in Sweden earlier, but it was an easy straight drive. In the first years we didn't book any accommodation but just drove to a place and started asking in hotels.

Bloggaus alkoi siis optimistin.vuodatus.net paikassa, mutta viimeiset vuodet oli jatkuvaa viagra-spämmikommenttien putsausta. Joten kun meidän vuoden 2016 vuorotteluvapaa lähestyi, niin vaihdoin marraskuussa 2015 omalle nimelle tänne Bloggeriin, että sain kätevämmin julkaista reissukuulumisia lähipiirille. Kaksi kokeiluviestiä meni sille kuulle näin ja sain sinne terveiset vieläkin blogitutuilta SusuPetalilta ja Lepikseltä.

So I started blogging here: optimistin.vuodatus.net (just in Finnish) but in the last few years I got tired of doing constant deletion of viagra spam comments. Hence as our 2016 sabbatical year was coming closer I switched in November 2015 to Blogger, so that it was easier to share travel news to close ones. I did two test posts that month and they got greetings from blog friends SusuPetal and Lepis that are still around.

Yllä vielä ryhmäkuva vuodelta 2015, kun pidin pienimuotoisen 50v-ruokailun kadun toisella puolella.

Above is me and some relatives + friends 10 years ago as I had a gathering for my 50th birthday.

Aloitin huhtikuussa 2020 postaamaan Viikon kuvaa, mikä onkin täyttänyt taas blogia enemmän. Sitä ennen kuukaudessa tuli 2-3 postausta, lähinnä reissukuvien julkaisua. Nyt kesällä vaihdoin viikon kuvan tahdiksi joka toinen viikko ja siinä välissä edistäisin reissukuvia, koska muuten ne meinasivat jäädä kokonaan ajan puutteen takia. 

In April 2020 I started to post the photo of the week and that brought some life back here. Before that I did just 2-3 posts a month, mainly publishing photos from our trips. But that took almost all the blogging time so this Summer I switched to doing photos of the week every second week and in between I handle my trip pics as otherwise those could gather dust in my mac.

Lyhyt kaksviikkoinen ja kartta

Viimeiset kaksi viikkoa onkin olleet aika tylsää. Maanantai-iltana katosi ääni ja tiistaina aamusta alkoi sairastelu loppuviikoksi. Meni ohi Hejm-illallinen, kurssi ja matka Hesaan Lautapelaamaan! tapahtumaan Katarinan kans. Hö! ☹️ Ainoastaan sängyssä kipeänä makoillessa tulee kuunneltua levyjä ja aloitan aina tällä Oldfieldin tuplalevyllä. Eli siinä viikon 37 kuva. 

The last two weeks have been quite boring. On Monday evening I lost my voice and in the next morning started sickness for the rest of the week. I missed a restaurant dinner, a training day and a trip to Helsinki with Katarina to a board game happening. ☹️ I usually listen to LP's when I'm sick in bed and I always start with Incantations. So it's the photo of week 37.

Seuraavalla viikolla oli jo vähän parantunut ja jaksoi istua pidempään, joten olin koko viikon kotona etänä. Keskiviikkona otin kuvan viikolle 38, kun pidettiin SAM Vaasan hallituksen kokous mun luona.

The next week I felt better and could sit longer, so I worked remotely that week. On Wednesday evening I took the photo of week 38 when we had the SAM Vaasa board meeting at my place.

Kun ei muuten liikkunut, niin tulikin uusia pelejä kokeiltua enemmän. Kingdomino Duel, eli tämä Kingdominon kevytversio kahdelle oli ihan hauska.

As I stayed at home there were more new game pics than usual. Kingdomino Duel is a lighter two player version of Kingdomino. It's quite a fun game so it's a keeper.

Kokeiltiin myös mun jo ennen Katarinaa, eli neljä vuotta sitten ostama Rick and Morty pakanrakennuspeli. TV-sarjan fanina tuo toisaalta oli ihan hauska, mutta sisältöön nähden liian pitkä, joten harmi kyllä laitoin sen myyntikasaan.

We also tested a game that waited four years (bought it before I knew Katarina). The Rick and Morty deck building game was fun as a fan of the TV show, but compared to the content it was way too long so sadly I put it to my for-trade pile.

Yksi viikon lounaista oli Katarinalta saatu keitto. Värikästä ja hyvää! 

One lunch during the week was a soup that I got from Katarina. Tasty and colourful!

Toisella viikolla kävin hitaasti kävellen kaupassa ja pisti silmään ruotsinkielisen kansanopiston ikkunakoristeet.

On the second week I visited a grocery store slowly walking and noticed prominent window decorations in a building downtown.

Toisen viikon uusi peli odotti hyllyssä kolme vuotta. Löytöretket: Lewisin ja Clarkin päiväkirjat tutustutti USAn lännen tutkimisen historiaan, josta en ollut aiemmin tiennytkään. Vanha peli, mutta ihan hyvä!

The new game of the second week had waited on my shelf for three years. Discoveries: The Journals of Lewis & Clark taught me something about the history of the USA exploring the Western part of the continent. Old but a good game!

Huomasin ranskankerman kääreessä mainion ohjeen miten voi rakentaa kuuluisia maamerkkejä (Eiffel-tornin, Kiinanmuurin tai Gizan pyramidin yms). Ostaa vain 49 purkkia lisää ja niiden tyhjennyttyä voi kasata hienoja rakennuksia. 😄

I noticed a fun secret behind a creme fraiche can's cover cardboard. Buy 49 more of these and you can build famous landmarks like The Eiffel tower or The Great Pyramid of Giza or Golden Gate bridge. 😄  

Lauantaista sunnuntaihin oltiin mökillä. Otin vielä rauhallisesti, pelattiin mainiot Pulsar 2849 kahdesti ja Valparaiso. Sieniä olikin markilla paljon!

From Saturday till Sunday we were at the cottage. I took it still peacefully and we played good games: Pulsar 2849 twice and Valparaiso once. A lot of mushrooms on the property.

Viikonloppuna hyödynsin lojumis... rauhassa ottamista ja tein vielä Italian matkastakin tuollaisen infopläjäyskartan. 

During the weekend I used my taking-it-slowly time and created an informative map also about our roadtrip to Italy.

Vielä Roomaan

Vielä jokunen kuva Roomasta. Tämä meidän lähes kotikatu Trasteveressä oli kivan vehreä.

A few more Italian photos of our days in Rome. Our (almost) home street in Trastevere.

Meillä oli mukava airbnb-kämppä mainiolla paikalla, mutta juuri meidän päivinä oli ilmastointilaite rikki. Kolme yötä 30C lämpöisessä kämpässä oli aika tukalaa.

We had an airbnb apartment in an ordinary house with a great location, but the AC was broken. Sleeping three nights in an apartment that was 30C (86F) was not comfortable.

Ensimmäisenä päivänä kierrettiin ensin kohti Colosseumia. Kauheat jonot, joten kierrettiin vain rauniot.

On the first day we started by walking to the Colosseum. Really long queues so we just walked around it.

On se iso!

Matkalla Vittorio Emanuelle 2:n monumentille samalla kadulla olikin jotain Etelä-Amerikkalaisten paraateja. Nämä olivat Boliviasta.

While walking towards the monument of Vittorio Emanuelle II we saw a parade from South America. These ones were from Bolivia.

Aiemmilla kerroilla tämä Vittorio Emanuel II:n monumentti jäi näkemättä. Nyt käytiin tuolla ylhäällä katsomassa maisemat ja syömässä jätskit.

On my previous visits I've missed this Vittorio Emanuel II monument. Now we climbed up, checked out the view and had ice cream.

Käytiin katsomassa kaikki turistirysät. Fontana di Trevin edusta oli ihan täynnä.

The next tourist trap was Fontana di Trevi. A big rush there too.

Yhden stadionin ohikävelyllä huomattiin, että laittoivat lavaa pystyyn. Netistä selvisi, että sinä iltana oli Duran Duranin konsertti. Käveltiin sinne sitten illaksi vielä köyhillä uusimaan kasarifiilistä.

While walking by a stadium we noticed that they were setting up a concert stage. A quick googling told us that Duran Duran was to be there that night. So for the evening we walked there to enjoy some 80's.

Vatikaaniin mennessä oli ovela suihkulähde. Lightroom poisti sukkelasti turistit näkymää sotkemasta.

A cool fountain on our way to Vatican city. Lightroom removed quickly all people from spoiling the view.

Paluulento siirtyi kahden päivän päähän, joten varattiin huone Ostiasta meren rannalta. Matkalla sinne värikäs seinäkoriste. 

Our return flight was delayed for two days so we booked a room from Ostia by the sea. A nice decoration on our way there.

Meidän 'hotellissa' oli kaksi huonetta, toinen vaalean sininen ja tämä meidän oma pinkein mitä nähnyt hetkeen. 

Our 'hotel' had just two rooms. The other one was light blue and this ours was the pinkest I've seen for a while.

Pariisissa tulikin seuraava yllätys - Rooman kone myöhästyi 30 min ja sen takia jäätiin jatkolennolta Tukholmaan. Pitikin olla yötä Pariisissa viisi tuntia ja aamulla lento Saksaan, josta Tukholmaan ja sieltä Vaasaan. Huh.

The next surprise happened in Paris - the flight from Rome was 30 minutes late so we missed our flight to Stockholm. We had to do a five hour hotel night in Paris, then fly to Germany, then Stockholm and finally to Vaasa. Phew.

Pari viikkoa kohti syksyä

Viikon 35 kuvana ruokailua saarikauden päättäjäisistä. 

The photo of week 35 is from lunch on the cottage season's ending.

Viikon 36 kuva taas sunnuntain ekasta juhlasta. Juhlittiin Annin 2v-synttäreitä.

The photo of week 36 is from the first birthday party of last Sunday - Anni is now two years old.

Tuli vastaan taulullinen historiaa Vaasan tehtaalta. Veikkaan vuodeksi jotain 1989 kun tuolla V4-verstaan vieressä on vielä ne kaksikerroksiset konttitoimistot, jonne toimitin ainakin Pietarin tehdasprojektin listoja.

I found a historic aerial photo from the Vaasa factory. My guess is that this was taken around 1989 as there are still temporary offices behind the rightmost green factory hall. I used to deliver printed lists there.

Jatkoksi parin viikon takainen tilanne tuon kuvan vasemman etureunan rakennuksesta. Henkilöstötalo ja lähettämö menivät ensimmäisenä ja nyt puretaan tätä kakkostehdasta.

And from the same area two weeks ago. The closest building on the left is now being demolished. Personnel building and a green warehouse/delivery hall disappeared first and now factory two is on its way.

Tiistaina käytiin kokoustamassa SAM Vaasan hallituksen osajoukkona syksyn toiminnasta. 

On Tuesday we had a SAM Vaasa (partial) board meeting about activities of the coming Autumn.

Joku varmaan korjaa nimen, mutta monien putusillaksi sanomaa pyörätien kohtaa on ruvettu uusimaan.

The bike path bridge near the Wärtsilä Vaasa factory is being renewed and it's closed now for some time.

Perjantaina oli Artturin kanssa uimahallissa ja autoin illan molempien lapsenlapsien kanssa. Sen jälkeen ajoin mökille ja liityin saarikauden päättäjäisten viettoon. Illan lopuksi vielä Little town -erä.

On Friday I visited the swimming hall with Artturi and did some babysitting for the rest of the evening. Then a drive to the cottage for cottage season's ending. And finally a round of Little town.

Lauantai meni syödessä ja kaikkea puuhatessa. Lapsille kohokohta oli lämmitetty palju. 

On Saturday we ate and just spent time. The cool part for kids was the hot tub.

Hiukan koleaa, mutta komea auringonlasku taas.

A bit cool evening but a nice sunset.

Illan päätti kaksi erää Dixitiä viidellä.

Sunnuntain jäätiinkin kahden jo klo 15 tienoilla. Ensin tiskit ja sitten saunaan + pelaamaan kolme erää Bärenparkkia.

On Sunday it was just the two of us already at 3 p.m. so we did dishes, then sauna and three rounds of Bärenpark game.

Viikolla näkyi joku retkue rannalla.

I saw red people during the week.

Juoksulenkillä näkyi uuden keskustan luontopolun rakentaminenkin alkaneen.

While jogging I noticed that the building of the oncoming nature path had started.

Kolmas perjantai'uinti' Artturin kanssa. Banaani kahden tunnin altaassa peuhaamisen jälkeen teki hyvin kauppansa. 

The third Friday 'swimming' with Artturi. A banana was really appreciated after two hours of splashing.

Illaksi taas mökille. 

Back to the cottage on Friday.

Otettiin uusinta torstai-illan uutta peliä, jo yli vuoden hyllyssä odottanutta Raiders of the North Sea:ta. Mainio tapaus! 

We took one more round of Thursday's new game, Raiders of the North Sea, which has been waiting already for a year. A great game!

Lauantaina tehtiin ylijäämälistoista hylly autotalliin lopuille ylijäämälistoille.

On Saturday we built a new shelf to the garage of boards for the rest of those same boards.

Illalla käytiin kesäkauden ekalla kajakkikierroksella katsomassa auringonlaskua. 

That evening we did the first sunset kayaking of the season.

Vastapäisellä oli venevaja ja vedessä paljon sinilevää! 

The boat shed at the opposite shore.

Sunnuntaina lähdettiin kaksille synttärijuhlille. Lossin jälkeen olikin näemmä sateenkaari, jota en huomannut kuvatessa.

On Sunday we left Bergö to participate in two birthday parties. I noticed afterwards that there was a rainbow after the ferry.

Annin synttäreiden jälkeen mentiin Katariinan vanhimman lapsenlapsen Colinin 15v-juhliin. 

The second bday party after Anni was Katarina's oldest grandchild Colin who's now 15.
