Viikon kuva - Roomaa

Viikon kuvaksi löytyisi historiallisia rakennuksia Roomasta, mutta niissä oli turisteja tungokseksi, joten valitsin nyt kuvaksi eniten mieleen jääneen Finnairin maksaman loman yllätyspidennyksen. Viikon tiukan ohjelman jälkeen olikin yhtäkkiä kaksi rentoa päivää. Meidän paikka on tuossa oikealla.

For this week's photo there would have been several photos of historical buildings in Rome. But they were crowded so instead I chose a scene from Rome's beach area Ostia. It was a bit special as suddenly after a tight week we got two more days to relax paid by Finnair. Our chair is there on the right.

Pikaisesti vielä takaisin edellisen viikon Ponte Vecchio -sillalle. Sillan keskeltä oli hienot näkymät, tuon seuraavan sillan yli ajoin kahdesti P-paikkaa etsiessä.

A brief revisit to Ponte Vecchio bridge of the previous week's blog post. The view from the middle of it towards the next bridges was nice. I drove twice over that first one.

Ja sillan sisällä näytti tältä: myymälöitä toisensa perään ja paljon turisteja. Natsit räjäyttivät perääntyessään kaikki muut sillat, mutta tämä säästettiin hienoutensa takia. Sen sijaan räjäyttivät molemmissa päissä olevat rakennukset tietä tukkimaan.

The interior of Ponte Vecchio had several shops and a lot of tourists. Nazies blew up all the other bridges while in retreat but this one they saved and blew up just the buildings on both ends to block the route.

Meidän kämpän vieressä oli koulu ja niitä + turistipaikkoja oli koko ajan turvaamassa sotilaita. En tiedä oliko päällä jokin uhka, vai onko tämä ihan normaalia.

There was a school next to our place in Rome and every day there were soldiers in guard. Also tourist sites had them. I'm not sure if there's some ongoing threat or is this a normal thing.

Maanantain pääohjelmana oli kolmisen viikkoa aiemmin ostettu pääsy Vatikaanin museoon ja Sikstiiniläiskappeliin. Käveltiin sinne Pietarin kirkon aukion kautta. Tässä lähestymässä:

For Monday we had tickets to the Vatican museum and Sistine chapel. Fortunately, we bought those already three weeks earlier - most tickets sold out already then. Walking towards St. Peter's Basilica:

Ovelin oli kuitenkin poistumisen porraskäytävä, jossa on kaksi erillistä spiraalia - toinen laskeutumiseen ja toinen nousuun.

The coolest thing there was this staircase for exit. There are two separate spirals, one going down and the other one going up.

Turisteja pursuavia nähtävyyksiä parempaa oli Trasteveren tunnelmalliset pikkukadut ja ravintolat.

Better than crowded tourist attractions were the little streets and restaurants of Trastevere.

Viimeisenä iltana istuskeltiin tämän suihkulähteen portailla yksien juomien verran.

On the last evening we sat with drinks on the stairs of this fountain.

Paluumatka alkoi kolmansilla lentolipuilla. Matkaan tulikin mutkia, kun lennon myöhästymisen takia jäätiin jatkolennolta Pariisissa. Pitkän yön Tukholmassa sijaan saatiin stressiä, 3h unet Pariisissa ja lento Tukholmaan aamulla Münchenin kautta. Hieno kahvilan koriste Rooman kentällä. 

We started the trip home with our third tickets, but it got difficult as we missed the second flight due to the first one being late. Instead of a long night in Stockholm we got stress and 3h sleep in Paris. The new route to Vaasa was via Munich and Stockholm. But at least I shot a nice coffee shop decoration at the Rome airport.

Perjantaina klo 14.05 oltiin vihdoin Vaasassa ja ehdin sitten nauttimaan upeasta perjantai-illan kelistä mökille.

On Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. we were finally in Vaasa and for that evening I drove to Katarina's cottage to enjoy great evening weather.

Sateisen lauantain retkeltä Korsnäsiin palatessa oli mökkitiellä kurki, joka joutui kiirehtimään yli 100 metriä auton edellä, että pääsi tarpeeksi aukealle lentääkseen.

We took a trip to a shop and while returning from there a crane was on the road. It had to hurry over 100 meters in front of us before it could fly.

Sadepäivänä oli hyvä palata Freskojen kilpaa restaurointiin. 

On the rainy Saturday it was fun to return to frescoes and compete on restoring them.

Sunnuntaina kasattiin pelin jälkeen rikki menneen grillin seuraaja ja vedettiin sillä maistuva testi-illallinen.

On Sunday we played a board game and then assembled the new grill to replace the broken one. And got a tasty test for dinner.
