Trieste

Lomareissun aloituksena oli siis kaksi päivää Triestessä. Itselleni se oli tuttu kolmelta työmatkalta Wärtsilän tehtaalle, mutta viimeisestä kerrastakin oli jo 10 vuotta. Tarjalla oli paikka näkemättä, joten tämä oli hyvä tilaisuus korjata asia. 

We started our vacation trip with two days in Trieste. For me, it was a familiar place due to my three work trips to Wärtsilä factory, but the latest of those was already 10 years ago. Tarja had not visited there, so this was a good moment to fix it.

Yllä oleva näkymä kuvattiin rinteessä olevasta Obeliskilta, josta harharetken jälkeen päästiin Miramare-linnalle (alla). Se on rakennettu Itävallan Arkkiherttualle ja valmistui 1860.

The above photo was shot next to an Obelisk up in the hills. From there we drove (via a bit longer route) to Miramare castle (below) which was built for Archduke of Austria in 1860.

Linnan jälkeen siirryttiin vielä Wärtsilän tehtaalle. Tuolla mäellä keskellä näkyviä rakennuksia oli kuulemma käytetty joissain lehdissä Tsernobylin onnettomuuden jälkeen voimalan kuvina, ennen kuin joku täältä kotoisin oleva oli tunnistanut rakennukset.

After the castle visit, we went to Wärtsilä factory. The two big buildings up on the hill in the middle of the photo below have a fun history. In the first news of the accident, a picture of these was used as a Chernobyl power plant. Then somebody from Trieste recognized them and corrected the mistake.

Oli mukava nähdä sisarustehdas pitkästä aikaa, Valerio ja Ugo vetivät meille hyvän kierroksen.

It was really nice to see again our sibling factory and Valerio and Ugo gave us a great tour. Thanks, guys!

Seuraavana päivänä mentiin onneksi bussilla keskustaan, parkkipaikan löytäminen olisi ollut tuskallista ja kallista. Aloitettiin katedraalin (oikealla) ja linnan (vasemmalla) kierroksella.

The next day we took a bus to downtown - it was a wise move as finding parking there would have been difficult and expensive. The first destination was the Cathedral (right) and the castle (left).

Kävely alas keskustaan, lounas ja kiertelyä torilla ja kanaalin varrella. Upeat kumpupilvet tekivät mainiot taustat kuviin. Illalla käytiin vielä autolla kiertelemässä Montedoro-ostarilla.

Walk down the hill to downtown, a lunch and wandering around the main square and the canal. Those beautiful cumulus clouds made a nice background to photos. In the evening we drove to Montedoro shopping centre.
