Viikon kuva on nyt Valassaarilta. Katarinalle käynti oli eka, mulla tuli nyt viikkoa vaille 8 vuotta edellisestä käynnistä. Olin silloinkin vuorotteluvapaalla ja osallistuttiin retkelle Tarjan, Pirjon ja Sepon kanssa (kuvalinkki).
The photo of the week is from islands a bit farther away from Vaasa. This was Katarina's first visit, my first one happened almost exactly 8 years ago. I was then too having a sabbatical leave. We participated in a trip with Tarja, Pirjo and Seppo.
Katarinalla oli ollut pitkään puhetta osallistua siellä olevan biologisen tutkimusaseman talkoisiin ja nyt viimeinkin sopi vapaat aikatauluun. Oltiin asemalla yötä ja osallistuttiin kaksi päivää rakentamiseen.
Katarina has been in talks for participating in these voluntary work sessions at the biological study station and now finally there was a free slot in the calendar. We stayed there for two days and participated in building a bedroom upstairs.

Mutta taas ensin alkuviikkoon. Tiistaina nähtiin kaupungissa Elsan luona vierailemassa olleita Pirkkoa, Esaa ja Maarettia. Päivä oli kuuma, joten mentiin isolla porukalla Mariannen ja Artturin + Annin kanssa Kustaanlinnan uimarannalle virkistäytymään.
But first back to the beginning of the week. On Tuesday we met Pirkko, Esa and Maaret who were visiting Elsa. The day was so hot that we went to the beach with them and Marianne + Artturi and Anni to get a refreshing swim.

Viikolle tuli kaksi uutta peliä. Keskiviikkona otettiin yksinkertainen Enchanted Plumes ja perjantaina tämä Founders of Teotihuacan. Molemmat jää hyllyyn, olivat kivoja.
Last week we played two new games: on Wednesday Enchanted Plumes and on Friday Founders of Teotihuacan (pic below). Both were nice games and will stay in my collection.
Lauantaina otettiin Niclas kyytiin ja ajettiin Svedjehamniin. Sinne tuli samaan kyytiin kolme päiväretkelle tullutta hyönteistutkijaa.
On Saturday we drove with Niclas to Svedjehamn. Three insect scientists joined us as they came on a day trip to the same place.
Saarella liikkuu muutamakin lammaslauma, jotka kuulee aina kaukaa näiden kellojen soitosta.
At the island there were a few flocks of sheep. You could always hear where they were because of those bells.
Me saatiin ekaksi hommaksi tehdä yläkerran eteisen lattia. Jens sirkkelöi laudat mittoihinsa ja me laitettiin ne paikoilleen.
Our first task was to do the hallway floor upstairs. Jens saw timber for us with the right measures and we mounted those.
Lähes kuuskymppiseksi asti onnistuin välttelemään tälläistäkin hommaa.
I've managed to dodge this kind of work for almost sixty years.
Mutta hyvä siitä tuli!

Paikkana on siis Valassaarten biologinen tutkimusasema. Tuonne yläkertaan ollaan kunnostamassa lisää makuutiloja vierailijoille.
The place is the biological research center at the Archipelago. They are building two bedrooms upstairs for overnight visitors.
Niclas liittyi mukaan ja lauantain loppupäivä ja sunnuntai meni sitten tämän isomman puolen seinien ja katon tekemisessä. Hyvin suunniteltu on puoliksi tehty!
Niclas joined us and for the rest of the Saturday and Sunday we did walls and ceiling of this bigger side. Well planned work is half done!
Ehdittiin viettämään vapaatakin. Lauantaina käytiin poimimassa vähän mustikkaa lättyihin tulevan hillon lisukkeeksi.
We also had some free time. On Saturday we picked some blueberries to add to jam. It was really good with pancakes.

Tuolla oikealla näkyykin se saarten kuuluisa Eiffel-toimiston suunnittelema majakka.
On the right you can see the lighthouse designed by the Eiffel's architecture office.
Ja vasemmalla tuossa rannalla on sauna, josta käytiin pari kertaa uimassa.
The smaller building on the shore at left is a sauna. We went to swim twice from there.

Yläkerran ikkuna tarjosi hienon kehyksen maisemalle. Tämä oli jo lähellä tulla viikon kuvaksi.
The upstairs window frame created a nice 'painting'. I almost chose this as the photo of the week.
Sunnuntaina välitavoitteen valmistuttua kannoin meidän kamat veneeseen ja lähdettiin kävelemään saaren poikki luontopolkua pitkin. Tänne muistomerkin alle on haudattu joskus 1800 luvulla saarelle sotaretkellä kuolleita venäläisiä.
After finishing the interim goal of Sunday I carried our stuff to the boat and we walked the nature path through the island. Here's a memorial of Russians who died here at some point around the 1800's. They were attacking Sweden during Winter.
Majakka piti aluksi laittaa pohjoisemmalle saarelle, mutta maaperän takia sijoituspaikkaa pitikin vaihtaa. Tämä silta rakennettiin metalliosien kuljetukseen viereiselle saarelle. Nykyään tuo on kuivalla maalla maan kohoamisen takia.
The lighthouse was originally planned to be on the Northernmost island but due to wrong soil its location was changed to the next island. This bridge was built to move the parts there. Because of rising land it's nowadays in a forest.
Yllättävän (huolestuttavan?) vähän hyttysiä.
The place had surprisingly (alarmingly?) few mosquitos.
Lampaat viettävät edes kesän unelmaelämää.
Lambs have a good life, at least for the Summer.

At the lighthouse I used my second drone battery.
Tällä puolella saarta vesi olikin lämpöistä, joten pulahdettiin mereen kyytiä odotellessa.
On this side of the island sea water was much warmer so we took a quick swim while waiting for our ride.

The routes are getting tighter every year.
