Viikon kuvana tilanne lähes lopputilanne, kun pelattiin nelisen tuntia Dune: Imperium -peliä. Pelikaverina oli Katarinan sisko Åsa ja miehensä Tom. Sisarukset ovat molemmat voitonhaluisia ja päätyivät jaetulle hopealle. 😊

The photo of the week is from near the end of our four hour game of Dune: Imperium. Katarina's sister Åsa and her husband Tom played with us. Sisters are both competitive and ended up getting a shared silver. 😊

Viikolla syömään kävellessä huomasi jo valoisuuden palaavan. 

During the week while walking to lunch I could tell that it's getting more light already.

Lauantaina käytiin vielä hiihtämässä - sunnuntai menikin levossa (leffa-peli-leffa), kun Katarinalle tuli flunssa, joka multa on suunnilleen ohi.

On Saturday we did some xc skiing. Sunday was more of resting (movie-board game-movie) as Katarina got the cold that I was slowly getting over with.

Löysin viikolla kiinnostavan ohjeen Sticky Tofu. Sainkin syödä sitä heti lauantaina ja oli kyllä hyvää! 

On Thursday I found an interesting recipe: Sticky Tofu. I got to eat it already on Saturday and it was really good!

Viikon kuva - Me 2v

Tänä vuonna nämä vierekkäiset 'synttärit' jakautui kahdelle eri viikolle. Maanantaina nimittäin meillä tuli täyteen kaks vuotta ensitapaamisesta. ❤️ Kuva on viisi päivää myöhemmin lauantailta, kun oltiin synttärijuhlassa. 

The two anniversaries of January happened this year on different weeks. On Monday was the second anniversary of our first time meeting. ❤️ This picture was taken five days later when we participated in a birthday party.

Keskiviikon deitti-iltaan toin kukkien lisäksi kaksi peliä. 😊

On Wednesday I brought flowers and two board games. 😊

Meadow on kehuttu ja olihan se kyllä hyvä. Pitäisi saada testattua 3-4 pelaajallakin, kun kahdestaan kortit vaihtuivat vähän hitaasti. Linkin takana hyvä selostus pelistä suomeksi.

That Meadow is quite liked and it was a good game. Although, it would be good to test it also with 3-4 players since cards didn't get refreshed very quickly in 2p game. 

Sunnuntaina oli surkea keli, joten pelattiin kaksi erää toista uutta peliä: Pulsar 2849. Tuossa olikin monta reittiä kerätä pisteitä, kiinnostava tapaus. Jää ilman muuta hyllyyn!

The weather on Sunday was so lousy that we took two rounds of another new game: Pulsar 2849. That was a really interesting game too. Many ways to collect points. A sure keeper!

Viikon kuva - Artturi 2v

Viikon kuvana on nyt eilen kaks vuotta täyttäneen Artturin synttäripakettien avaamishetki. On kyllä niin tyylikäs, kiltti ja kiva jäpikkä mun lapsenlapsena! 🥰

The photo of the week is from my grandson's two year birthday party. Artturi is an exceptionally cool, kind and nice boy! 🥰

Viime viikko alkoi Vaasan Suomi-Amerikka yhdistyksen kokouksella.

Last week started with the board meeting of Vaasa's Finland-USA association.

Keskiviikkona otettiin vielä Orleanssia kolmella. Mikko pelasi ekaa kertaa, niin kohteliaasti annettiin sen voittaa. 🙃

On Wednesday we took a three player round of Orleans. Mikko had not played it before, so we were polite and let him win. 🙃

Pelin ja iltapalan jälkeen käytiin katsomas Söderfjärdenin reunalla kiikarilla tähtiä. Kuva näytti ihan hyvältä kännykän ruudulla, mutta olisi tarvinnut enemmän tukea.

After the game and evening snack we went out to check out some stars with binoculars. The photo looked fine on my phone but clearly I should have supported it more while shooting.

Perjantaina tuli nyt sitten täyteen kolme vuotta Tarjan kuolemasta. ❤️ Sattumalta Mika Eirtovaaran standup-show osui samaan päivään ja nyt olinkin Katarinan kanssa eturivissä. Edellinen kerta lähes samassa paikassa oli melkein 10 vuotta sitten Tarjan kanssa. Sama mies on kyllä nähty myös kahdesti näiden välissä livenä. No, mutta show oli hauska vaikka osuikin tuollaiseen surulliseen päivään.

On Friday it was three years since Tarja died. ❤️ And for that same day we had tickets to stand up show. Almost 10 years ago (would be in April) I was in that same front row to see the same guy with Tarja and now I was there with Katarina. Life's a strange thing. I've seen the same guy also twice between these shows and it was again a good session even though the day was a bit sad. 

Lauantain uutena pelinä pääsi viimein pöydälle lähes 2,5v hyllyssä odottanut San Juan. Olis pitänyt korkata aiemmin - tuo on kätevä nopea helppo peli. Tuolla linkin takana hyvä selitys siitä suomeksi.

The new game of the weekend was San Juan. It has waited on my shelf for almost 2,5y and that's a pity. It's a quick, handy, easy card game, which will get more plays. There's more about it behind the previous link.

Parin San Juan erän jälkeen käveltiin uimahallille ja perinteisesti ensin juoksumattoa, sitten kuntosalia ja lopuksi uimista. 

After two San Juan rounds we walked to the swimming hall and did our traditional triathlon: running, gym and swimming.

Kadulla huomaa, että talvi ei oo vielä lähtenyt mihinkään. 

The winter is still here.

Viikon kuva - Vuosi kauniisti alkuun

Viikon kuvaksi pohdin muutamaa muutakin, mutta tämä kuvaa summaa vuoden alkua. Kova pakkanen kiusas toista viikkoa, mutta aurinko rupeaa taas vähitellen valaisemaan. 

I had a few options for the photo of the week but this sums up the first week quite well. Hard freezing weather was stuck in Finland for over a week but then again the Sun started to light more.

Oltiin uusi vuosi Bergössä: valvomista, peliä, pakkasen pitoa. Vessakäynneillä ei tullut kännykkää katseltua, kun pakkasta oli se lähes -30C... Vessan peilin sentään kuvasin.

Our new year weekend was in Bergö cottage: staying awake, playing board games and staying inside. Toilet visits were quick due to freezing. I had time to photograph the bathroom mirror though.

Auto pärjäsi hyvin pakkasissa monta yötä. Paitsi nyt lopussa perjantaina tarvitsi apua. Siinäkin ongelmana oli sitten avain, jota ei tunnistanut.

My new car managed in -30C many nights well. Except now on Friday it needed help. But even then the reason was car keys which were not recognised.

A quick walk.

Uuden vuoden viikonloppuna otettiin vanhoja tuttuja pelejä, mutta ekalla viikolla tuli korkattua taas kaksi uutta peliä. Isompi oli Orleans, joka onkin maailmanlistalla #31. Oli selkeä ja mukava, mutta kahdella ehkä liiankin rauhallinen. Huomiselle suunnitteilla kolminpeli lisäosilla, joten saapa nähdä.

On the New Year's weekend we played only familiar board games, but for the first week we tested two new games. The bigger one was Orleans which is #31 in BGG's all games. Clear and nice, but with two players maybe too comfortable. Tomorrow we'll play it with three so let's see how that changes things.

Olkkarikin on kunnon jouluväreissä.

My living room has proper Xmas colouring.

Toinen peli olikin selvästi helpompi, mutta tarjosi myös taktikointia. Caesar's Empire on Asterix-peli, mutta gallialaisia ei pelissä näkynyt logoa enempää. Hauska nopea peli.

The other new game was clearly simpler but still offered some tactics. Caesar's Empire is a game of familiar characters but no sight of the heroes of the comics. A fast fun game though.

Viime viikon saavutuksista voi mainita myös Duolingossa rikki mennyt 1000 päivän raja. 😎

A cool thing from last week was also that I reached a thousand day streak in Duolingo. 😎

Viikon kuva - Joulu osa 2

Joulu jakautui tänä vuonna kahdelle viikolle ja molempina tuli pidettyä jouluruokailu isommalle porukalle. Tapaninpäivänä oltiin meillä ja paikalla mun lapset perheineen ja mun veli, kihlattunsa, Katarina ja meidän äitee.

Holiday season was split this year to two different weeks, and we got a bigger Christmas supper for both of them. On the 26th the lunch was in my place along with my kids and family, my brother and his fiancee, Katarina and our mother.

Joulupäivänä käytiin Seinäjoella hakemas äiti, samalla nähtiin pitkästä aikaa mun kummipoika Jere ja siskonsa.

On the 25th we visited Seinäjoki to pick up my mother. There we got to eat with my godson and his sister.

Tapaninpäivänä vedettiin vieraita odotellessa piparit.

Waiting for the guests at my place with gingerbread cookies.

Pelattiin Artturin ja Annin kans noppakisaa.

I got to play some dice with my grandkids.

Sulvalla käytiin kurkkaamassa yhden sisarusparin isot jouluasetelmat.

This was a bigger Christmas decoration at Sulva.

Paljon oli nähty vaivaa näiden rakentamisessa. 

Quite a big set. And they do this every year.

Viikolla ei olleet vielä pakkaset alkaneet ja kävin viimeinkin ekat kierrokset lähiladulla Vaskiluodossa.

During the week the freezing day hadn't started yet, so I got to do some xc skiing near my home.

Perjantaina käytettiin Aatun vanhaksi menevää ePassi-lahjakorttia ja otettiin Mikko keilaamaan.

On Friday we visited the local bowling hall with my son Mikko.

Lauantaina tuli testattua Botniahalli-käynnin jälkeen jo ennestään tuttu Dune: Imperium uuden lisäosan The Rise of Ix kanssa. Aika suotta oon sitä vältellyt, oli ihan hyvä.

On Saturday we did some running and went to a gym. After that we got to test for the Rise of Ix, which is an extension to Dune: Imperium. I've avoided it but in vain, it's good!

Sunnuntaina tuli nähtyä viimeinkin kaupungin yleinen avantouintipaikka päivänvalossa.

On Sunday we did a short walk and I finally got to see the new public winter swimming in almost daylight.

Pakkaset oli jo alkaneet, joten ei vielä testattu itse.

The freezing days had already started so we didn't test it yet.

Kengät ja hanskat voisivat olla mukava lisävaruste.

Shoes and gloves would be useful here.

Samalla kävelyllä näkyi pitkästä aikaa hääkuvausporukka. Näin kylmässä en oo ennen nähnytkään näitä. 

Haven't seen any wedding photographers in Vaasa for a while. They had quite a cold session. 

Suomalaisille lukijoille ei taida tarvita kertoa mikä on polaaripyörre. Tuossa kuvassa se vain näkyi aika selkeästi. Tämä on aiemmin pysynyt talvet pääsääntöisesti Siperian ja pohjois-Kanadan tienoilla, mutta nyt ilmastonmuutos sotkee senkin liikkeitä. Ja me palellaan.

Finland has been now about a week inside the polar vortex, which has usually been in Siberia and northern Canada. Unfortunately, climate change is mixing this too and it's been in the 'wrong' (for us) place now. We've had in Vaasa about -25 to -30C (-13 - -22F). Inland has more cold and in Lapland the coldest so far has been -42C (-43F).
