Rio päivät/days 1-2

Rio de Janeiron ensimmäisinä päivinä odoteltiin taivaan kirkastumista ja siksi valittiin vähemmän vuorenhuipuille meneviä kohteita.

Lauantaina mentiin bussilla muutaman kilometrin päähän kasviteteelliseen puutarhaan (Jardim Botanico), jossa oli leppoisaa kierrellä muutama tunti. Söpöyttä paikkaan toi ihmisiltä syötävää kerjäävät apinat.
On the first days of Rio de Janeiro we waited for the sky to get clear, hence we chose places that were not so high.

On Saturday we took a bus and visited the Botanical garden (Jardim Botanico) that was a few kilometers from our hotel. It was a nice place to wander around for a few hours. Monkeys begging for food was a cute addition to the place.

Alueella on muutamia erilaisia kasvihuoneita - nämä olivat kaktuksille ja muualla on omansa orkideoille.
There are own green houses for cactus' (below) and separate ones for orchids.

Tarja löysi isoa halattavaa:
Tarja found a big tree for hugging:

Pitkiä palmukujiakin riitti käveltäväksi, samoin kasvihuoneita ja pieni museo. Ekana päivänä ei yritetty tuota kunnianhimoisempaa, vaan käytiin syömässä paluumatkan varrelta löytyneessä buffet-paikassa ja vietettiin ilta hotellilla (Tarja gymille ja uimaan, minä yrittämään nettiin ja käsittelemään kuvia).
The park was varied: long palm alleys, green houses, monkeys and a small museum. Since this was our first day we didn't try anything ambitious but just had a buffet lunch in a small place on our way back and spent the rest of the day at the hotel (Tarja in pool & gym, me trying to get online and checking day's photos).

On Sunday we took a metro to ferry terminal and bought tickets to Niterói on the other side of the bay. We started to walk around the cape and here's our ferry in the beginning of the route.

Rakennus on kyllä erikoinen!
The building of the Museum of Contemporary art (MAC) is quite extraordinary! Too bad that we couldn't visit inside it as it happened to be an election day and the museum was closed. For our whole trip we had a planning excel sheet with a row per day. One of the columns was local bank holiday, but elections are not every year, so we didn't notice this one.

Museon vierestä näkyi erikoinen saari. Tuolloin ei tullut selvitettyä mitä siellä on, mutta ainakin Googlen kartan perusteella tuo korkeimmalla oleva rakennus on kirkko.
A peculiar island was visible from the museum. At the time I didn't check what it was, but now at least according to Google maps the building on the top is a church.

Vaalipäivän takia useimmat paikat olivat kiinni, mutta löydettiin yksi paikallisten kuppila ja syötiin ennen kuin palattiin laivalla keskustaan.
Due to the election day most of restaurants were closed, but we found a local eatery for our lunch before we returned to the ferry and downtown.

Käveltiin vielä katsomaan keskustan katedraalia (Catedral Metropolitana de Sâo Sebastiâo). Ränsistynyt, mutta vaikuttava paikka. Tuo koko tötterö oli yhtä isoa tilaa. Peränurkassa oli näyttely, jossa esiteltiin Torinon käärinliinan 'todisteita'.
In downtown we walked to Catedral Metropolitana de Sâo Sebastiâo (above + below). It was old but pretty impressive. The whole cone was one big empty space. On left corner at the back there was an exhibition of 'evidence' of Turin Shroud.

Lisää alkupäivien kuvia löytyy Brasilia-albumin alusta ennen Kristus-patsasta. Ja enemmän tulossa taas kohta.
More photos of our days 1-2 are in the beginning of Brazil album - and there are more to come.
