Viikon kuva - Auringonlasku lokakuussa

Viikon kuvana pitkästä aikaa auringonlasku. Kiersin perjantaina töiden jälkeen kävelyllä rantaa pitkin ja tyyni meri teki hienon näkymän. 

It's been a while since the photo of the week was a sunset, and now it's again. This happened on last Friday as I walked by the sea side after work.

Tämä kahdeksan minuuttia aiemmin ollut näkymä väreineen oli kisaamassa viikon kuvan tittelistä, mutta yksinkertaisempi voitti.

This view shot eight minutes earlier got almost chosen for this week but the more simple one won.

Viikonlopun ohjelmassa oli (pelaamisen ja kävelemisen lisäksi) mökin valmistelua talveen ja pakkaseen. Laiturin putket rupeavat näemmä kasvamaan veden alla.

The program for the weekend was (in addition to board games and walking) to prepare the cottage for Winter and freezing. The stairs of the pier seem to grow below the surface.

Testaamisurakan jälkeen nyt on valmis valikoima meidän tulevan lomamatkan mukaan otettavista peleistä. Kriteerinä pieni koko ja että löytyy tarpeeksi sisältöä toistoihin. (Mariannelle tiedoksi, että Arkajalat on vain ihan tavallinen korttipakka... jonka itse asiassa taisitkin jonain jouluna antaa lahjana 😃)

We've been testing small games and now the collection for our oncoming vacation trip games is ready. The criteria was that the chosen games need to be small but have enough content for repeats. My daughter loves The Goonies movie so I need to mention that it's not a game but just normal playing cards (which if I recall right she actually gave me as a present).

Viikon kuva - Siemenet purkissa

Viikon kuvana vaihteeksi taiteellista puolta. Salaatinsiemenpussin sijasta ostin oman lajitelman ja olivat ihan hieno kasa ennen sekoittamista.

The photo of the week is now a bit artistic. Instead of a ready mixed seed bag I now bought separate seeds and created my own collection. It looked quite nice before the spoon stirring.

Torilla kävi esittelysatsina toistakymmentä matkailuautoa ja asuntovaunut. Tämä tapaus oli kompakti ja hiukan erilainen.

Over a dozen camping cars and caravans visited Vaasa market square for three days. This case was compact and a bit different.

Walking to our new factory/office I noticed a nice collage by the Moon and pipes.

Lauantaina pidettiin Vaasan Suomi-Amerikkaseuran hallituksen työpalaveri vuosikokouksen valmisteluun. 

On Saturday we had Vaasa's Finnish-American associations working meeting to prepare for the official annual meeting.

Ihan siisti neukkari kaiken kaikkiaan.

That meeting room was quite nice.

Kokouksen jälkeen loppupäivä olikin juttelun, syömisen ja pelaamisen (L.A.M.A. Party edition ja Azul Summer Pavilion). Pikkuinen Artturi oli tässä kohtaa päiväunilla.

After the meeting we spent the rest of the day talking, eating and playing (L.A.M.A. Party edition & Azul Summer Pavilion). Grandson Artturi was taking a nap at this moment.

A colorful finding I forgot to pick up on my blog last week.

Viikon uusi peli oli meillä Mariposas (espanjaksi 'Perhoset'). Tuo perustuu perhosten muuttoon Meksikosta pohjoiseen ja takaisin kolmen vuodenajan kuluessa. Inspiraationa oikea muuttoliike, jossa miljoonat perhoset lähtevät, mutta yksikään lähtijä ei tule takaisin. Pelissä kerätään pisteitä täyttämällä vaihtuvia tavoitteita ja yrittämällä saada mahdollisimman monta neljännen sukupolven perhosta takaisin lähtöpaikkaan syksyn loppuun mennessä. Olipa taas yksi mukava peli! 👍🏻  

The new game of our week was Mariposas ('Butterflies' in Spanish). It's based on the actual migration of Monarch butterflies, where millions leave Mexico and millions return in the Fall, but no single butterfly ever makes a round trip. In the game you collect points by fulfilling changing tasks and trying to get as many generation four butterflies as possible back to Mexico by the end of Fall (round three). Again a nice game! 👍🏻

Viikon kuva - Stundarssin puutaloalue

Viikon kuva näyttää Stundarssin vanhan puutaloalueen, jossa kaikki nämä puutalot on siirretty jostain muualta ja kunnostettu moderneiksi kodeiksi. Enemmän tietoa alueesta löytyy vanhasta artikkelista täältä. 

The photo of the week shows the old wood house area in Stundars. All these buildings have been transferred from somewhere else and renovated to be modern homes. This translated article tells more of the area. 

Lauantaina oli Wärtsilän valokuvauskerhon vaellus, viikolla näytti vielä tulevan sateista, mutta olikin hieno päivä Kurikassa. Käveltiin Särkisen polku.

On Saturday the photo club of Wärtsilä had a hike in the Särkinen area in Kurikka. We did about a five kilometre walk, this pdf shows some pics and the map of the route.

Ehdin ottaa dronella yhden kuvan autiotuvan piiristä ennen kuin akku loppui. Aamulla näytti vielä 75% varausta, onkohan tuo huono merkki akun kunnosta.

I carried the drone all the way there to get just this one photo before running out of battery. That morning it showed 75% charge, hopefully the effect is not a sign of bad battery health.

Naturally we took the group shot too! 

Paluumatkalla oli jo aurinkoista ja piti kuoria päällimmäisiä vaatteita pois. Tuossa on ollut aikoinaan Särkisen järvi.

On our way back it was so sunny and warm that I took some clothing off. This was originally Särkinen lake, but it's disappeared.

Polulta olisi päässyt käymään myös Tainuskylän korsulla, mutta mentiin sinne viereen erikseen autolla. Tuolla oli esillä vähän historian erilaisia puolia.

There was a possibility to do a 3 km additional hike to Tainuskylä dugout but we visited the place by car. "In this place on 10th of March 1943 two men (names) were killed. They didn't accept the war." 

Viereisen talon omistaja kertoi muuttaneensa sinne 1961 ja oli vasta 80-luvun alkupuolella saanut tietää että parin sadan metrin päässä oli tällainen. Tuolla oli kolme miestä ollut käpykaartissa reilun vuoden, ennen kuin käry kävi ja asiat muuttui huonompaan.

The owner of a house nearby said that he moved to place in 1961 and didn't know until in the early 1980s that about 200 meters from his house was this place. The three guys lived here over a year before the place was revealed to village people.

Viikonlopun uusi peli oli Age of Galaxy, joka on mun ensimmäinen varsinainen Kickstarter-peliostos. Maksoin sen viime vuoden marraskuussa, niillä rahoilla valmistivat pelit ja laatikko saapui nyt elokuussa. 

The new game of the weekend was Age of Galaxy, which was my first actual Kickstarter purchase. I payed for it last November, they used the money to manufacture games and now in August I finally received it. 

Tuossa pelataan viisi kierrosta ja (yllättäen) yritetään saada mahdollisimman paljon pisteitä. Niitä saakin sitten aika monella erilaisella tavalla, valloittamalla planeettoja, tutkimusretkillä, osallistumalla politiikkaan ja tekemällä kauppaa. Erilaisia rotuja erilaisilla ominaisuuksilla riittää kymmeniä ja niitä saa kumpikin seitsemän satunnaista käyttöönsä pelin aluksi. Teknologioita saa rotujen mukana ja lisäksi etenemällä tuota vasemman alanurkan teknologiarataa. Tämä oli näemmä taas 'Katarinan pelejä' ja voitti toisenkin erän vielä isommalla kaulalla. Mutta kiva oli pelata! Sai pähkiä oikein kunnolla, kun vaihtoehtoja oli vaikka miten paljon. Näyttää olevan mun kokoelman seitsemänneksi monimutkaisin peli.

The game consists of five rounds and once again the target is to collect as many points as possible. There are many different ways to acquire those: colonizing planets, exploring, participating in politics and doing trade. There are dozens of different races who all have different talents and effects and both players can use seven of those. You get different technologies with races and also by building your own technology tree (bottom left). This was again one of those games where Katarina was better, she won both rounds. But it was still fun to play! A lot of thinking and maybe next time I'll get better starting races. According to BGG this is the seventh most complicated game in my collection.

Viikon kuva - Hervottomat

Viikon kuva on pitkästä aikaa (mulle) ja ekaa kertaa (Katarinalle) nähdystä standup-keikasta. Heikki Vilja, Ursula Herlin ja Antti Haapala vetivät jokainen hyvän shown. 

The photo of the week was from a stand up show that we saw in Ritz theater nearby. Three Finnish comedians who have also worked together to write a TV comedy show gave us good laughs.

Viikon yllätys oli Pelimiehen käytettyjen alennuksesta mukaan tarttunut tylsän niminen Mallorca. Se olikin ihan mukava ja selkeä hedelmien keräily/taktikointi tapaus. Omalla vuorolla kierretään tuulimyllyn siipiä ja saadaan hedelmiä, tai sitten voi toimittaa tarvitun satsin ja kerätä pisteitä. Eri yhdistelmillä saa vielä lisäpisteitä ja käytettävissä on neljä aputoimintoa, jotka pisteiden arvoisia, jos ne jättää käyttämättä. Ei tuossa varmaan riitä monipuolisuutta kovin usein pelaamiseen, mutta erä silloin tällöin on varmasti paikallaan.

Finca (a.k.a. Mallorca as it was published in Finland) was the nice surprise of the week. It was a second hand game and was 20% off. There the idea is to collect needed fruits from the windmill blades and then deliver the needed combinations to different villages for points. Certain combinations give you additional points and every player also has four helper actions, which give you points if you don't use them. The game is quite simple so it's probably not for playing very often but is surely nice every now and then. 

Kotipihan Aronia-puska oli auringonvalossa mahtavan värikäs.

The Aronia tree in my home yard was really colorful when the sun was shining. 

Lauantaina kävin vielä iltakävelyllä hoitamassa viime syksyltä muistiin laittamani kuvauskeikan. Laivapuiston skeittirata näytti silloin hienolta pimeässä valaistuna.

On Saturday evening I did an evening walk and took the photo that I planned a year ago. The skate park next to Wärtsilä city premises looked good in the dark.

Viikon kuva - Kiivetään puuhun

Metsäily ja puiden läheisyys jatkui vielä toisenkin viikon. Nyt käytiin Öjbergillä ja otettiin kunto/seikkailukierros metsässä ennen iltapalaa.

Trees continue as the subject for the photo of the week. This time we did a training/adventure trip to woods and then had a good dinner. 

Syksy näkyi hienosti jo kaupungillakin.

Perjantaina nähtiin West Side Storyn molemmat ekaa kertaa. 

On Friday we saw West Side Story for the first time.

Lauantaina siis pelien ja kävelyn yms. jälkeen pyöräiltiin Öjbergille. Sitkeä puu.

So... On Saturday after games and walking etc. we bicycled to Öjberg. A resilient tree noticed.

Tsekattiin kaikki nähtävyydet. Tästä paikasta on löytynyt kivikautisen leiripaikan nuotion jälkiä. Mäki oli silloin saari ja tämän kiven alla joku oli viettänyt yön kalastuspäivien välissä.

We checked all the sights. This place had traces of a stone age camping fire. Back then this hill was an island and somebody had found cover for spending a night between fishing days.

Pirunpellolla testasin 360-kameraa. Oikeasti meidän päät on normaalin kokoisia.

I tested my 360 camera again. In reality our heads are normal size.

Kierroksen lopuksi Katarina lämmitti iltapalan trangialla.

After the route Katarina prepared our dinner. 

Halloumihampurilainen ja salaatti oli kyllä hyvää!

Tuon jälkeen piti kiiruhtaa takas ennen auringonlaskua. Alamäkipyöräilijöille oli tarjolla kaks eri reittiä ('mestarit' ja 'nynnyt'). 😃

Then we had to hurry back quickly before the sunset. Downhill riders had two different routes. 😃

Siellä se jo oli menossa.

Lauantaina otettiin myös pari erää Curious Cargo -peliä. Tuo on kahdelle pelaajalle tehty peli, jossa rakennetaan liukuhihnat lähtevien ja saapuvien puolelle. Toiselta lähtevät rekat menevät naapurin vastaanottoterminaaliin ja vastustajalta lähtevät tulevat mun vastaanottoon. Mitä enemmän saa outoa lastia lähtemään ja onnistuneesti vastaanotetuksi, niin sitä enemmän saa pisteitä. Valmistuneista linjoista, täysistä rekoista ja peitetyistä palkintoikoneista saa apuja, jotka helpottaa etenemistä. Voitettiin molemmat yks peli, on kyllä mukava aivopähkinä! 👍🏻

On Saturday we also had two rounds of Curious Cargo. This is a two player game where you build conveyor belts to both the leaving side of the plant and to the goods reception side. The trucks that leave my plant arrive at Katarina's goods reception and vice versa. The more curious cargo you send and successfully receive, the more points you'll get. Finalized conveyor belts, covered board icons and full trucks give you helping tokens so that it's easier to build and ship more. Both of us won once, a good game! 👍🏻 

Sunnuntaina otettiin Mikko mukaan ja käytiin katsomas äiteetä. Päivän pelinä oli L.A.M.A. ja voitot vei Timo, Timo ja Suoma.

On Sunday we took my son along and visited my mother. The game of the day was L.L.A.M.A. Wins: me, me and my mother.

Viikon kuva - Maailmanperintöalueella

Viikon kuvana menoa meidän lauantaiselta vaellukselta Björkön perukoille. Luonnosta löytyi taas rauha.

The photo of the week is from our hike last Saturday. Peace can be found from nature.

And I was there too!

Mutta aloitetaan alusta. Ensiksi kuultiin oppaan esittely alueen historiasta jääkaudesta alkaen. Tämä aluehan on Suomen ainoa Unescon luonto-maailmanperintöalue (käännös, enkuksi oikealla). 

But back to the beginning. We started by listening to a presentation by a local guide. This area, Kvarken Archipelago, is the only Unesco World Heritage Nature site in Finland. 

Näkymä tornista länteen. Harjanteet ovat mannerjään sulamisen 'vuosirenkaita'.

Toisella puolella näkyi sisäjärvi, jossa oli vielä 100 vuotta sitten saaren satama.

The other side shows a lake inside the island. The harbour was there about a hundred years ago.

Katselupaikka puroon, josta keväisin kymmenet tuhannet kalat menevät sisäjärveen kutemaan.

The viewing place to a small stream where tens of thousands of fish go to the lake every Spring.
