Viikon kuva - Simpsiöllä

Viikon kuvana nyt meidän laskettelukauden aloituksesta Simpsiöltä. Keli oli täydellinen - aurinkoista ja hitusen nollan alla. Jonoja jonkin verran, mutta ne liikkuivat ihan hyvin ja loppupäivästä sai mennä suoraankin hissiin, kun ajoissa paikalla olleet lähtivät illan viettoon.

The photo of the week is now a scene from Simpsiö where we got the start of the downhill skiing season. The weather was perfect - sunny and a bit below zero celsius. Some queues but they forwarded well. At the end of the day we could even go directly to the elevator as early birds had left.

I see sunsets of Vaasa nowadays more often since they happen now after I stop my work day.

Viikon kuva - Kävelyllä

Viikon kuvassa näkyy taas tämä sama tyyppi, mutta erikoisena tapahtumana on, että tein nyt lapsenlapsen kanssa ekan kävelyn. Vähän oli kyllä epäsosiaalinen, kun nukkui koko 5,9km matkan.

The photo of the week again shows the same old fellow but the special occasion is that I did the first walk with my grandson. The little guy was a bit antisocial as he slept the whole 5,9 km that we walked with him.

Viikonloppuna Bergössäkin oli aurinkoista. Tuoliryhmä valmiina kesään. 

The weekend in Bergö was sunny. The table and chairs are ready for Summer.

Tyrnipuskallakin näyttää olevan jo suunnitelmia kesän varalle.

The sea-buckthorn bushes had also plans for the oncoming Summer.

Lauantaina 7,8 km hiihtoa jäällä mantereelle ja kiertäen takaisin. Sunnuntaina käytiin saaren poikki 11,4 km kävelyllä. Suunnatkin saatiin selville: 

On Saturday we did a 7,8 km xc-skiing round on the sea ice. Then on Sunday we walked across the island for 11,4 km. The sign gave us directions:

Tilastollisesti ajatellen

Maltan kuvien julkaisu on edennyt jostain syystä vähän hitaasti, mutta asia on vielä muistissa. Ajattelin tehdä tästä vähän kaksoisaiheisen postauksen, eli yhdistän Maltaa omaan tapaani pitää vähän kaikenlaisia tilastoja.

Aloituskuva on aamupalalta Gozolta. Olin ekat kuusi yötä Blue Waters B&B -paikassa, joka on kyllä erittäin suositeltava! 👍🏻 Joulun aikana olin ainoa vieras ja joka aamu paikan omistaja Franco hoiti aamupalan. Siinä tuli päivän aluksi aina mukava juttelutuokio kahdestaan ja sain hyviä vinkkejä + apua.

Publishing of my Malta photos has forwarded a bit slowly for some reason, but it's not forgotten. This post is about two subjects as I combine some Malta stories to my long lasting habit of keeping various lists and statistics.

This first photo is from my breakfast in Gozo. I stayed for the first six nights at Blue Waters B&B which I can really recommend! 👍🏻 I was the only guest during Christmas week and every morning the owner - Franco took care of my breakfast. We had really nice discussions and he gave me a lot of good advice and help.

Pidän siis kirjaa vähän kaikesta: käydyistä standup-keikoista, terveyshavainnoista, laitteiden oudoista temppuiluista, vesimittarin lukemista, pomoista kautta aikojen, museokortin käytöistä, autoistani, pelatuista lautapeleistä, matkojen kustannuksista, verenluovutuksista, katsotuista leffoista + monta muuta asiaa.

Tietysti myös matkailusta on tallessa kaikenlaista. Nyt Maltan myötä on ulkomaanmatkoja tullut tehtyä 93 ja eri maita käytynä 74. Maalaskuriin on erilaisia käytäntöjä - itse lasken Vatikaanin, Taiwanin ja Tahitin maaksi, kun taas Traveller's Century Clubin mukaan ne eivät ole maita (YK:n jäseniä). Tuon TCC:n mukaan mun maalaskuri on 71 (ja TCC-alueet: 86), tosin heidän säännöissään on mukana välilaskumaat, joita en itse laske. Autoillut olen 33 maassa, golfannut 14:ssa, sukeltanut 27 maassa, geocachingiä >24 maata ja erillisiä lentoja on noista tullut 304 kpl. Tosin kotimaan lentoja työmatkoilla en ole laskenut, niitäkin on ollut aika paljon. Lisäksi lentokoneella nousuja on 26 kpl enemmän kuin laskeutumisia! 😃 (= laskuvarjohyppy kurssi 2006-7...)

I'm keeping lists and statistics about everything: visited stand-up gigs, health, strange bugs in my devices, water consumption, my bosses, use of the museo card, my cars, played board games, travel expenses, blood donations, watched movies and many other things.

So naturally a lot of data is saved about my trips too. Now after visiting Malta I've done 93 trips outside of Finland and have visited 74 different countries. Counting countries has different ways though - I'm including Vatican, Taiwan and Tahiti as a country whereas according to Traveller's Century Club rules they are not (only UN members counted). According to that TCC my country number is 71 (and TCC-area count 86). But their rules count stopovers during flights, while I don't count in those. I've driven cars in 33 countries, played golf in 14, done scuba diving in 27, geocached in >24 countries and have 304 flights from those trips. Flight count doesn't include domestic work trips, a lot of those. Also a fun thing is that I have 26 more take off with airplanes than landings 😃 (= a skydiving course in 2006-7...)

Maltan pääsaarelle siirryttyäni sain edes yhden käyttökerran mukaan kannetuille juoksukengillekin. Ilmakin oli niin lämmin, että tarkeni shortseilla ja t-paidalla. Maassa oli maskipakko ulkonakin, joten sillä mentiin.

Juoksemiseen liittyen oon tietysti tilastoinut askeleitakin! Toissa viikolla tuli täyteen 2.7.2010 päivästä alkaen laskettuna 40 miljoonaa askelta käveltynä ja juostuna. Tuon lähes 12 vuoden ajan oon liikkunut keskimäärin 9461 askelta / päivä. Tänä aikana kovin päivä oli 61900 askelta ja kipsauksien yms. jälkeen on ollut 300 askeleen päiviä (oma arvio kotoa). Tuossa 5.2.2022 tuli myös täyteen 1000 päivää putkeen niin, että rullaava viikkokeskiarvo on yli 10 000 askelta. Jalkaongelmien jälkeen piti saada taas keskiarvoa ylös ja se päähänpinttymä on jäänyt päälle. 

After moving to the main island of Malta I got to use my running shoes once. And the weather was so warm that I could do it in shorts and a t-shirt. The whole of Malta had a rule to use masks even outside, but it was quite ok even for running.

So naturally I've also kept statistics of my steps too! Two weeks ago I got 40 million steps since July 2nd 2010 when I bought my first pedometer. Since then my daily average is now 9461 steps per day. During that time the max is 61900 steps and lowest is about 300 (days at home after a cast). Also now on Feb 5th I got 1000 days in a row for a running weekly average being over 10k steps / day. I started walking more about three years ago after I had 6 months of walking with 'elbow sticks/supports'. Now I'm stuck to that habit but I don't mind.

Viikon kuva - sydän Vaasa

Viikon kuvana torstaina ehti jo näkemään valoisaa taivasta töiden jälkeen kävelemään lähtiessä! Taitaa se kevät olla tulossa. 👍🏻🌞

The photo of the week is from last Thursday. It's nice that the sky is not dark anymore when I go out after a work day.  👍🏻🌞

JA perjantaina päivän kahvituntiringillä korttelin ympäri kiertäessä oli jo täysin keväinen tunnelma. Tuolla taustalla on jo tehtynä ladutkin jäälle, pitäisi ne käydä nopeasti tsekkaamassa kun ovat vielä siellä.

AND on Friday during my 'coffee break walk' (since I don't drink coffee) the view looked already like Spring! There are skiing tracks done on the sea ice so I should go and test them while it's still possible.

Viikon kuva - Peliä, urheilua ja kävelyä

Viikon kuvana tällä kertaa kiva peli Kingdomino. Toki hyvä seura tekee pelaamisesta mukavan - ja kun molemmat voitti yhden erän, niin on myös tasapuolista. 😊

The photo of the week shows the Kingdomino game and us. It's a really good board game - we both won one round so clearly the game fits well for clever people. 😊

Kingdominossa rakennetaan kaksiosaisista laatoista max 5x5 ruudukon, jossa pisteet tulee kunkin eri tyyppisen alueen ruutujen määrästä kerrottuna sen alueen kruunujen määrällä. Kiva ja nopea peli. Enemmän tietoa täällä.

In Kingdomino players build their own 5x5 grids little kingdom. The points depend on how many squares you have on each land type and that multiplied by the number of crowns on that area. A nice and fast game. More information is here.

Last week had a few proper freezing days which created nice looking trees.

Perjantaina kävelyllä sai välillä talsia hangessa ihan kunnolla, kun pyörätiekin oli lähes täynnä.

Our Friday walk was almost sports as the wind had covered bike paths with snow.

Lauantaina päästiin hiihtämään, on se aina mukavaa. Metsäkallion kierros oli sopiva ja testasin myös pellon lisäreitin. 

We did some xc skiing on Saturday. Skiing is always a good use of time. This place had an additional route around the fields.

Viikon kuva - Taivaallista ja lumista

Viikon kuvaksi vähän vaihtelua taivasnäkymillä. Mökillä oli perjantaina vielä kirkas taivas ja kokeilin pitkästä aikaa taivaskuvaa. Valotusaika oli 30 sekuntia, enkä muistanut miten laaja kuva-ala olikaan, joten allekirjoittanut on liikkumisen takia tuossa epäselvempänä hahmona.

The photo of the week is a bit darker for a change. The sky was still clear on Friday so I tested my big camera. Exposure time was 30 seconds, hence I'm here quite blurry. I didn't remember how wide the lens was and I moved too much.

Sunnuntain Valtteri-myrsky veti paikat täyteen lunta ja jännän näkymän mökkitielle.

The winter storm on Sunday filled places with snow and created an exciting view on the road to the cottage.

Synttärimeininkiä

Vuoden takaiset synttärit menivät Tarjan hautajaisissa, nyt sain kutsun mökkiviikonloppuun. Niin se elämä vaihtelee onneksi myös parempaankin suuntaan.🙂

My previous birthday was on the same day as Tarja's funeral but this birthday was something completely different. I got an invitation to a weekend at the cottage.

Lahjuksena sain tosi osuvan paketin, eli ekan lisäosani Carcassonneen (olin jo suunnitellut itse hankkia sellaisen). Tässä pelin loppuasetelmat vielä ilman sitä Kirkot ja Kievarit -lisuria.

As a birthday present I got my first add-on to Carcassonne. I had already planned to get one so it was a really good surprise. Here's a game without that Inns & Cathedrals -addon.

Onkin ollut ylikiva viikonloppu, mutta allasosasto jää vielä odottamaan meren sulamista.

It's been a really nice weekend but the pool area was not tested. Maybe when the sea melts.

Nyt ympärillä viuhuu Valtteri-myrsky, joten edellisten päivien pitkät kävelyt voi skipata ja askeleet hoituvat juoksumatolla.

Now there's a winter storm howling outside, so today's long walks are probably skipped and done on the running mill.

Viikon kuva - Vaalit läheltä katsottuna

Viikon kuva tuleekin hiukan myöhään, mutta parempi niin... Viime kesäinen kuntavaaliehdokkuus poiki näihin vaaleihin mahdollisuuden edustaa puoluetta vaalitoimitsijana. Olin alunperin varajäsen ja menossa vain iltaan laskemaan, mutta jo aamu yhdeksän jälkeen tuli soitto yhden varsinaisen joutumisesta karanteeniin. Aloitin osuuteni klo 11 ja iltapäiväksi sain ruokatauon.

The photo of the week is a bit late but better that than never. Being a candidate in last year's communal election brought me an opportunity to represent the party as an election official. I was originally just in reserve and instructed to go to help in counting. But already in the morning I got a call as one of the members had to stay in quarantine. I started my day at 11 a.m. and got one lunch break in the afternoon.

The place was a handicraft class in a school where my daughter Marianne has been.

Päivän mittaan tuli leimattua lappuja ja muuta. Käytettyä tietokoneelta äänestäjien kirjaamista ja annettua lappuja. Ja välillä sitten muuten vain istutaan.

During the day I got to do all three different tasks: hitting stamps, using the computer to register voters and giving ballot papers. And between those just sitting and waiting.

Kello 20 lyötiin ovet kiinni ja todettiin, että tuossa paikassa kuntavaaliäänestäjien määrä ylittyi viidellä. Laput lajiteltiin ensin puolueittain ja sitten ehdokkaittain. Lopuksi kaikkien äänien summaa verrattiin koneen antamaan äänestäjien määrään. Osui nappiin ja päästiin kotiin klo 21.30.

At 20.00 (8 p.m.) the door was closed and we noticed that even though it was supposed to be quieter than last year, there were five more votes. Ballot papers were sorted by party and then by candidates. It was right about the first try and we got to leave at 21.30 (9.30 p.m.).

Olikin kiinnostavaa nähdä miten tuo hoituu käytännössä. Outoa vain, että nämä valitut vaikuttavat elämäämme paljon enemmän kuin presidentti, mutta silti aluevaalit vetivät selvästi vähemmän äänestäjiä...?!

Seeing that side of the election was really interesting, especially as this was a new election in Finland. Though a strange thing is that these selected representatives affect our lives more than the President, yet that election gets much bigger voting activity.

Viikon kuva - Erityinen viikko

Viime viikkoon mahtuikin kaikenlaista. Keskiviikkona tuli oltua leski vuoden verran (kirjasuositus). Perjantai-iltana titteli yleni paapaksi, kun ensimmäinen lapsenlapsi syntyi. 😊 (kuva ei siis oma ottama)

Last week had a lot important happenings, but I didn't take many photos. On Wednesday I had been widow for one year (includes a book recommendation). And on Friday I got promoted! Instead of a father, I'm now The Grand Father. 😊

Sunnuntaina kävin kokeilemassa Vaskiluodon ladut, mutta ne eivät nyt olleet hyvässä kunnossa. Kun ei ketään muuta ollut näkyvissä, niin tuli sentään otettua kuva tuosta aina kierrosta piristävästä graffitista.

On Sunday I tested the close-by skiing track but this time it was quite poor. But at least I got a photo of that interesting looking graffiti that I have admired on every round.

Saturday Classic - Peacemaker & Wig Wam

Nyt parin päivän ajan on päässä soinut toistolla mahtavan Peacemaker -tv-sarjan intromusiikki. Yleensä tv-sarjojen alkupätkät tulee hypättyä yli, mutta Game of Thronesin ja tämän katsoo joka kerta. Jo tuo video henkii sitä sarjan mainiota kieroa mustaa huumoria.

Now for two days I have had this intro song of the great Peacemaker tv-series on my head all the time. Usually I skip intros after the first time but this (as also Game of Thrones beginning) I want to watch every time. That whole dance shows the clever dark humor that the series has.

Tv-sarja perustuu James Gunnin viime vuotisen ylihyvän elokuvan The Suicide Squad yhteen hahmoon, Peacemakeriin.

Ja Suomi-bongauksena heti ensimmäisessä jaksossa Peacemakerin selaillessa itselleen mieluisia äänilevyjä, siinä kolmen katsotun joukossa vilahti Hanoi Rocksin levykin!

The tv-show is based on really good The Suicide Squad movie. It's directed by James Gunn and premiered last year. Peacemaker is one character in that movie.

Already in the first episode I noticed a Hanoi Rocks (a Finnish band!) album cover when Peacemaker was browsing music he liked.

The song is done by Norwegian band Wig Wam. The whole song is here:

The photo of the week is from my weekend walk. On Saturday I was skiing this route to do some skiing but the sky was cloudy and didn't give very good view (except this 360 view during the skiing). But Sunday brought a nice sunshine!:

Palmusaaren rakentaminen nopeuttaa ruuan valmistumista

Yleensä reissussa ravintolaruuan tuleminen kestää kauan, mutta Maltalla keksin mainion keino nopeuttaa tilausta. Repussa oli mukana Palm Island -pakka ja kun tilaus lähti, niin aloitin pelin. Kolmella neljästä kertaa ruoka jo tuli ennen kuin olin saanut saaren rakentamisen läpi. Ylikätevää!

Usually it takes a long time for food to come in a restaurant but in Malta I invented a fun way to speed up the kitchen. I had a Palm Island cards in my backpack and after I had ordered I started the game. Three times out of four when I did this, my order was ready before I even had finished the game. Nice!

Palm Island on siis 16 neli-puoleisella kortilla pelattava peli, jossa tavoitteena on saada mahdollisimman paljon pisteitä kahdeksan kierroksen aikana. Tuo numero-kortti laitetaan viimeiseksi ja aina kun se tulee vastaan, niin se käännetään seuraavalle numerolle kasan alle. 'Frei' = ilmaiset resurssit käännetään kyljelleen ja niitä voi olla max neljä. Niillä voi ostaa muita kortteja, jotka pyöräytetään ylösalaisin tai käännetään toisin päin. Esim. tuon Temppelin ylösalaisin pyöräytys maksaa puun, kalan ja kaksi kiveä ja siitä saa sitten kolme pistettä. Kun '8' tulee vastaan, niin lasketaan vasemmalla ylhäällä olevien ⭐️-merkkien numerot yhteen.

Palm Island is a simple game with 16 cards that have four sides. The goal is to get as many points as possible during the eight rounds. That number card goes to the bottom of the pack and always when it comes again, you turn it to the next number. 'Frei' (= free in Germany) resources are turned sideways and there can be max four. Those are used to buy other cards which are either flipped or turned upside down. For example turning that Temple upside down costs a tree, a fish and two stones and then it gives three points. When '8' comes while browsing cards you just sum numbers next to ⭐️-icons that are on top of your cards.

Ennen joulua löysin vihdoin Verkkokaupan alesta (12€) euron postareilla Rushhour-pulmapelin. (Kiitos vinkistä Pirjo ja Merja! 🙏🏼 ) Kotiin palattuani se oli tuolla keittiön nurkassa kunnes ratkaisin kaikki 40 tehtävää. Tavoitteena on saada punainen auto ulos laudalta edessään olevan aukon kautta. Kutakin autoa saa siirtää vain eteen ja taakse päin. Tuo oli selkeä ja koukuttava. Viimeinen kenttä olikin vaikea ja monta kertaa palautin sen alkuasentoon ja yritin uudestaan

Just before Holidays I finally found a recommended (Thanks Pirjo & Merja 🙏🏼) Rushhour puzzle game and ordered it. After returning home I had it on my kitchen table until I had solved all 40 tasks. The goal is to get that red car out of the opening on the side. All vehicles can only be moved front and back. A simple but hooking game. The last task was quite difficult and I returned the board to start position several times and tried again.

Viikon kuva - Veneitä parkissa

Viikko sitten siirryin Maltalla viimeiseksi kolmeksi päiväksi Gozolta pääsaaren eteläpäähän Il-Brolliin. Tätä nätti rantareittiä tuli kuljettua useampaankin kertaan. 

One week ago I moved from Gozo to the Southernmost end of the main island for the last three days. I walked this shore route several times as it was so nice.

Hetken mietin, että miksi joillakin on noin pieniä veneitä... 🤔 😄 mutta eihän niillä mennä kuin muutama kymmentä metriä tuonne isommalle veneelle.

For a moment I wondered why some have so little boats... 🤔 😄 but then I realized that those are needed only for a short trip to their bigger boat. 

2021 instagram top9

Vuoden vaihteessa instagram-palvelussa kerätään usein edellisen vuoden 'top-9' kuvista. Kollaasi tykätyimmistä / tärkeimmistä kuvista on tässä. Tuo hääkuva (vuodelta 2003) oli vähän hämäävä, kun käytin sitä postaukseen Tarjan pois menosta. 

Around the New Year 'everybody' creates a top 9 collage of the previous year's best pics. My most liked / most important photos are here. The wedding picture was a bit distracting as I used it in my post about Tarja passing away. 

Kevät oli kuvissakin vähän harmaata aikaa, kesän tullen tuli paljon pyöräkuvia ja syksyllä tykkäyksiä sai tyttären Marianne hääkuva. Nyt tuoreena on sitten drone-kuva Maltan reissulta.

Tänään olisi ollut mun ja Tarjan 'ensikontaktin' 22. vuosipäivä (sekin oli sunnuntai). Laitoin treffipalstalle ilmoituksen, samana päivänä tuli vastaus ainoalta yhteydenottajalta. Muutama päivä kirjoiteltiin sähköposteja ja loppuviikosta mentiin ekoille treffeille katsomaan uutuusleffa Kuudes Aisti. Huvittava detalji oli, että leffan jälkeen ei kumpikaan tajuttu loppukäännettä. Tarjalla oli ainakin hyvänä selityksenä huono näkö, mulla taisi vain jännittäminen viedä keskittymiskyvyn.

The Spring was a bit grey also in photos, during the Summer I had a lot of bicycle photos and during the Fall a lot of likes went to the wedding picture of my daughter Marianne. The last one is a drone shot from my trip to Malta.

Today would have been my 22nd 'first contact' anniversary with Tarja (it was also a Sunday). I sent a message to a date site and got just one answer. For the first few days we emailed and at the end of the week went on a date to see a new movie called The Sixth Sense. A fun detail is that neither of us understood the end twist of the movie. Tarja had a good reason as she didn't see much, but my explanation was probably just that I was nervous and couldn't concentrate.
